Sam

Randi stirred in her sleep and snuggled up closer against me. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d asked a woman to spend the night, never mind the entire weekend, at my house. I’ve done plenty of dating, but hardly ever brought anyone to my home. I almost always went to theirs.

But last night with Randi felt…good. We decided to cook dinner together while talking about our work week. I learned that there was so much more about her business than I’d ever imagined. It wasn’t all fun, but hard physical work as well. I had no idea how she was able to pull it all off and still show up at my house with a smile on her face. I’d be mentally exhausted after arguing with vendors over pricing and shipping issues.

After dinner we ended up on the couch watching some television. We opted for a stand-up comedian that we both enjoyed. The best part of the show was listening to Randi laugh. At one point she had tears coming down her cheeks and ran out of the room. I never asked but I swear she said she almost peed her pants. I was all about making memories with her, but I’m sure that was one we could both pass on.

It'd been late when we’d finally made our way upstairs. Even though I’d spent hours thinking about the wild sex we were going to have as we tried some of those toys she’d stocked my room with, we never even went into it. Instead, we showered together and then made love on my bed.

It was tender and yet she rocked my world. Making love to her wasn’t just a sexual experience. There were so many emotions that flooded through me each time we touched. And when I entered her, for the first time in my life, I felt one with another person.

I brushed a stray hair that fell across her face and she sighed, but didn’t wake. What are you dreaming of sweetheart? Are they filled with thoughts of me? I’m right here sweetheart. It wasn’t a dream.

No dream could be as good as the way she made me feel. It scared the shit out of me. Everything was moving so fast, and change wasn’t something I was great at. Bob knew that when he hired her to do that room. But that room is nothing compared to the emotional changes in me this past week. My heart wasn’t closed. I was very capable of showing and receiving love. I loved my son and his family. I had close friends that I cared for very much as well. And of course, my grandchildren had stolen my heart the day they were born.

But this beautiful woman lying beside me had sparked something that I never thought I’d feel again. After she fell asleep, I had lain awake trying to think of a reason why we should end this. All I came up with are reasons why Randi and I worked, how we fit in each other’s lives.

“What are you thinking?” she asked softly.

I looked down at her and said “I didn’t know you were awake.”

“I’m a bit surprised myself, but I guess my internal clock says it’s time for coffee.”

“Oh, is that what you want? I thought it was this,” I said before tipping her chin up so I could kiss her.

“Is it possible to have both?” she smiled.

I slipped out from beneath the sheets and said, “Give me ten minutes and you will.”

“Do you mind if I shower while you make the coffee?” she asked.

“Don’t want to wait for me?” I teased.

“If I do, the coffee will surely get cold,” she grinned.

“But everything else will be hot,” I winked and headed out of the room.

I was in the kitchen when I heard the water in the bathroom upstairs running. So much for having a little fun before breakfast. She is showering without me, I might as well be productive and make us some breakfast. Since I knew she was going to be here all weekend, I’d stocked up on everything we were going to need.

Twenty minutes later she entered the kitchen and said, “Please tell me that is bacon I smell.”

“It’s not breakfast without bacon,” I said.

“You didn’t have to go through all this trouble. We could’ve gone out for breakfast,” she said.

“Funny. I believe last night you told me that you didn’t want to go anywhere. Have you changed your mind?” I asked as I handed her a cup of coffee.

She took a sip and then shook her head. “No. I had the opportunity to go out tonight, but I wasn’t interested.”

“Another date?” I asked, wishing that question hadn’t come out of my mouth.

She raised a brow looking puzzled and shocked. “Excuse me? You think I’m…seeing someone else?”

It was such a stupid thing to say and I needed to back pedal quickly. “Not talking about that type of date. Maybe I should’ve used the words other plans.”

She accepted that and said, “I could’ve. Last night before I came over, I was given tickets to a concert in Boston. Two VIP tickets by the way.”
