Sorry my BFF interrupted us. But I was really looking forward to seeing where it was heading. Like the bedroom.

I could never be that straightforward. That was most likely a good thing. Lizzy was right. I liked Richard. Although I wouldn’t mind running my hands all over his naked body and kissing every inch of him, I wanted more than that.

And that’s why I’m not calling him.

I didn’t mind taking chances with my business, but no way in hell was I doing that with my heart again.

As I got into my car, I realized I had forgotten my phone on the charger in Lizzy’s bedroom.

“Really? What else can go wrong today?”

I shouldn’t have asked the universe such a question, because I wasn’t sure I wanted to know the answer.

There was a knock on the passenger’s side window, and it was Lizzy holding my phone. I rolled down the window and she said, “Look what you forgot.” I reached across the seat for it, but she didn’t hand it over. Instead, she said, “Do you trust me?”

“Of course.” Then I asked, “Why?”

“You received a text.”

Oh, God, no.“Please don’t tell me you read it.” She nodded. “Who was it from?” My gut said it was Richard.

“Your new beau.”

“I don’t have one, but what did Richard say?” I wasn’t worried about him saying anything personal. It didn’t seem like his style. And there isn’t anything juicy to say, thanks to you Lizzy.

“He said he had a good time last night and wished you a nice day,” Lizzy said.

That was nice. “Okay. Can I have my phone now?”

She handed it over and added, “I might have asked him out for you.”

“You what!?” I said, hoping she was teasing me again.

“Don’t worry. He said yes.”

I scanned my texts and sure enough, Lizzy asked him out for this weekend. He asked what I wanted to do. “I can’t believe it, Lizzy. You told him to pick something adventurous?”

“You said you didn’t want to sit around the apartment again.”

“I did, but I have no idea what he’s going to pick. What if he picks skydiving or something like that? You know I’m afraid of heights,” I said.

“Oh, yeah. I should’ve told him that,” she stated.

“No. You shouldn’t have answered my text and pretended to be me. What am I going to say now when he calls me with the plans?” I asked.

“Say yes.”

“Lizzy,” I sighed, “You really shouldn’t have done that.”

“Nope. But I don’t think you’re really pissed at me, are you? I mean if you are, I guess you can give me back your phone and I can call Richard and explain what happened.”

“No. Don’t you dare touch my phone. You’ve already done enough,” I said firmly.

“You’re welcome,” she smiled. “Better get going or you’ll be late picking up that car.” She waved and headed back into her apartment building.

I rolled the window back up and sat in the car trying to decide if I should call him now or after work. But I didn’t need to wait. My phone buzzed with another message.

CAMPING?
