"I had sex with a man," I said, frozen in place as I waited for his reaction.

He just shrugged off his own robe and crawled into bed. "Kinda assumed you would. Works out, though."

"Ok?" I asked as I moved under the covers beside him.

"Well, if you waited for me, then it would always hang over Wraythe that he was never an option. Then there's the fact that you kissed him first - well, among us - because you felt like you had to, but you had sex for the first time with me? Nah. I'm a lot less worried about being your first than having you be mine."

"Really?" I asked.

He nodded. "I mean, at least this way, one of us has a clue, right?"

I pushed the blankets lower. "I wouldn't go that far, but I definitely want to see this."

"Oh?" He turned to let me see his hips. "I'm pretty happy with it. And see the marks that go from my belly button to my dick? Wraythe has them in the middle of his back. Amerlee said it's what they expect in a match, and I'm hoping that no one else will have them so they'll have to let Wraythe stay with us."

"They will," I promised.

But Eladehl's eyes were roaming across me. "That's gorgeous, Nari. It's beautiful, strong, and fragile all at the same time. I mean, the overall shapes are powerful, but the designs inside? It's the most intricate lace I've ever seen. Guess this means Zeal approves of you fucking around, huh?"

"More than you know," I said, curling up against his side. "I had to agree to his price, but he gave me the one thing I asked for."

"Me too," he said softly. "And then some."

Chapter 39

Nariana

We'd just fallen asleep when Shalsa arrived with our food. That was devoured in seconds, and we tried to nap again only for Amerlee to show up saying she'd arranged a suite of rooms for us down the hall. Evidently, most Body initiates were housed in small private rooms like the ones we'd had for school. Once partners were chosen, the couples were given a suite with their guardians across the hall.

That we'd be living exactly four rooms down from my big sister was nice. In the insanity of coordinating everything, I managed to pull Jamik aside and tell him my thoughts about mentorship. He said it was actually a good idea, and he'd see what the limitations were on student mentors staying on when the child graduated to be an initiate.

It felt like things were happening so fast, as if we were breaking some kind of rule. Interestingly, it was Saval who'd given permission for us to have these rooms, which meant she was also on our side. Yet the talk of "sides" didn't help the worry growing in the back of my head.

Wraythe would be assigned one of the smaller rooms across the hall as soon as he recovered. Jamik promised he'd handle that for us, including getting him there, warning that the big guy wouldn't be in the mood for company until tomorrow at the earliest. On the surface, everything was working out, but for all I knew, it could be temporary.

And then we werefinallyalone. Not that I didn't want to see everyone, but I was tired, needed a chance to think about what had happened, and I wanted to explain everything to Eladehl.Everything.But the moment we stepped into our suite, we both paused in our tracks.

It was horrendous.

Priests of Obligation had obviously been in here, cleaning things to make them livable for the next occupants, but they didn't change the decor. The rugs were all in a pink that reminded me of vaginas. There were pillows on the sofas which matched the rugs. The art on the walls had to be at least five decades old, and not the kind that was timeless. Then there was the bedroom.

Thankfully, the sheets were new, white, and the bed was freshly made. The blankets were grey. Everything else was in some shade of orange. Morbidly curious, I headed into the ensuite bathroom to find that it was decorated in nothing but black and white. I could live with that. It was a bit stark, but so far, it was the best room we had.

"So," Eladehl said, "I can't decide what we should focus on first. Removing the pink or the orange?"

"The pink," I told him. "At least the bedroom looks like it's stuck in perpetual autumn. Add a little red, and it'll be tolerable. That shade of pink, though?"

He made a gagging noise. "Looks like intestines."

"Pussy-pink," I told him.

He shook his head dramatically. "Nope, because I'd be ok with that. So, I think we should ditch the pillows, roll up that rug, and deal with the bare room. Thoughts?"

"I'm good with that." And I gestured to the stack of boxes that had been set along the side wall. "We also have to put that stuff away."

He smiled, stepping closer. "Team effort, right? How about I carry our clothes into the bedroom, and you can put them away. I'll handle the rug and pillows, then see where we are?"

"Sounds like a plan." I turned, intending to get started, but Eladehl caught my arm.
