“Fuck Dax, I just thought of it before you said it.” Dimitri put Journee down, looking as if his movements scared the hell out of her by carrying her here.

“Journee, we need to find spelled devices that are planted around the house by the Warlock. They could go off any minute now.” She looked shellshocked, but she said nothing and closed her eyes. I could feel the ticking throughout my body and hear my inner clock getting louder and louder. Suddenly Journee reached out, grabbing Dimitri’s arm, and squeezed it tightly. The marking on her hand that signified that she was a Witch began to move and grow. She whispered words I didn’t understand and was so quiet I couldn’t pick it up. I watched her for what felt like hours and flicked my eyes to Dimitri. His eyes rolled into the back of his head as he mumbled incoherent words, and the small, barely noticeable mark on the right side of his neck began to expand. This was taking too long, and maybe I could be getting more people out of here instead of standing around. I knew there were few minutes left, and I would have to get back upstairs to protect Devana and Dali the best I could from the blast. I started to do just that when Dimitri stopped murmuring, and his eyes flipped open to stare into mine.

“Time is too slow for those who can’t feel it, too swift for some, so they fear it. As the time draws near, the glooming, the dread beyond, darkens around what doesn’t belong in this home. Tick, tick of time we stop you now!”

Journee opened her eyes and held her breath as she looked around. She noticed that she had a death grip on Dimitri and pulled her hand away. I focused on my inner senses, trying to see if I still felt that impending doom. It had eased, but something still was off.

“We have them, Alpha!”Ezra’s voice boomed into my thoughts.

“Bring them directly to me,” I grunted.

“Journee, thank you. Are they all stopped?” I asked.

“There were sixteen of them, and they all have been stopped,” Journee said, looking around the house. I was already turning away to check on everyone else when her words penetrated.

“Sixteen? Seventeen, you mean seventeen, right?”

“No, sixteen. The only spelled devices were sixteen, and they are stopped. I can’t feel anymore.” She said, looking at Dimitri and me.

“She’s right, Dax. I feel nothing at all…” I turned around, trying to figure out what and where would the last device be hiding. I calmed myself and thought back to the scattered memories inside William’s mind, trying to make sense of his thoughts. There was something said about the last device and how it was meant to open the door. The words weren’t meant for William to hear or understand what they meant, but I did. I turned around to face Journee and Dimitri.

“Journee, you said the Warlock was making a portal gate to Hell or something on this land, right?”

“Yes, but what…”

“It’s not a bomb! It’s a trigger to release what is needed to finish the gate,” I said with fury. I was going to stomp the shit out of Peter and then his bloodline.

“Fuck! Shit, oh shit…they are going to make a sacrifice! If you aren’t a demon or a Shade, the only way to get that down would be to kill an innocent. Oh, Goddess!” Journee gasped. Her large, dark eyes looked around frantically as she mumbled. She gripped her necklace as she swayed.

“What the fuck are they sacrificing?” Dimitri growled. It didn’t take me long to figure it out, but Ezra came through the door with Jamel behind him. He held Lindell by the throat and threw him at my feet. I cracked my neck and eyed him when Dimitri shifted his hand into a claw, reached down, and grabbed the shifter by the shirt. Lindell screamed as Dimitri’s clawed hand dug into his flesh, and his brother shook in fear as he realized they both were fucked.

“I don’t give a shit which one of you tells me, but one of you better spit out where you hid the baby.”

“Dax! You need the location now. I can’t hold this spell back much longer…I…” Journee screamed and fell to her knees, holding her head as she began chanting once more.

“Journee!” Dimitri shouted, but she held up a shaking hand.

“Fuck it!” I growled and moved. I was right next to Lindell, who sneered in my direction. I didn’t give his ass time to talk his bullshit. It took nothing for me to rear back and smack his head from his body. I knew I had blood covering me. The blood sprayed everywhere as the last beats of his heart pumped out his life’s blood from his body. Dimitri dropped the body to the floor and turned his two-colored eyes onto Lennox. It didn’t matter because my point was made. “Now Lennox. You are the only one left, and since he is dead, only you have what I want. His death was in an instant, but yours will last for an eternity if you fuck with me.” There wasn’t a need to shout my words or repeat myself. Everything in his mind spilled out and opened to me like the pages of a book. Lindell had only marked the spell called the seventeenth circle here in the house, connecting it to the child. That would give the direction to open a gate on this property with no way to close it before all our souls were taken. The baby’s location was where I wouldn’t have felt it off my land, but close enough to get the job done. The baby was at William’s home, along with Jayla. She had been the one in charge of this shit the entire time. She had gotten to each pack member who turned traitor along with her and her husband. She was even willing to bring Lindell along with the promise of power and sex. She managed to persuade some wolves, but in the end, she was ready to kill them all to power up the opening of the Hell gate to this earth. Everything would look as if we planned to do this, causing untold death and probably starting a War between supernatural species and humans.

“It was always Jayla!” The words left my lips, but I was already gone.

DEVANA

I felt as if I was crawling on my hands and knees across glass. I could feel Dax’s anger, anxiety and rage, making me push harder to find my way out of this darkness. I knew this because it happened once before and not that long ago. What was different was the pain I felt trying to move in this realm.

“Pain is in your mind. The pain you are feeling is the representation of what Dax is feeling.”

“I need to get back! I need to help him through all of this.”I didn’t have time to sit and talk when I knew what was happening. I knew the actual reason why this demon was here and what he was trying to do.

“YOU WILL NOT GO UNTIL I SAY IT IS TIME!”The growl of the words vibrated my bones and made me pay attention. I knew where I was and who I was talking to, so I knew to keep my damn mouth shut. He isn’t God, but he is a god. One who gave me the chance to fix shit that went wrong.

“What do I need to do? I understand what was asked of me now, and I fully accept that responsibility.”I said.

“Nothing, I did not divine myself. This is not why you are here, Devana Okar. If you were to return at this moment, you would have been tainted by the demon.”His words made no damn sense. The demon hadn’t touched me or gotten near to me, so how…

“He touched my tether?”No wonder I was in pain. The demon was trying to attack my spiritual form, and he now had a grip on it.
