“Correct. What this demon has failed to realize is that you are now mine. The rules do not apply to me or my chosen. It cannot have you this way. Not in your spiritual wolf form. That is mine. How do you feel now?”

I didn’t speak immediately as I worked throughKannuck’swords and what they meant.

“If I were there in the flesh, you wouldn’t have interceded on my behalf?

“No. There are clear lines that must be followed, but …this falls into a gray area. There is no need to worry about that now, child. It is time. Do you hear that?”

I did feel better, and the pain was a faded memory. I tuned in to his words, and I was confused. There was nothing to hear in this place except I heard faint crying.

“Who…where is that crying coming from, and who is it?”I asked while looking around in the darkness. The crying was getting louder, and I knew it was a child for some reason. I felt light-headed, and I had sudden pressure on the backs of my eyes. I pushed forward, needing to stop this kid from crying and also to see my Mate. Just thinking that word now felt natural and normal. I moved forward as if I was moving through a thick jungle, and every inch was large plants. I could start to smell and immediately cataloging each scent that I could but not finding the one I wanted the most. Yes, it was there, but more of an echo, and I needed the real deal. I could scent Dali and her fear. She was or had cried as well, and that wouldn’t do. I pushed harder, fighting through the thick cobwebs in my mind, trying to get back to the living. I had to do it and fast because I had no clue how long I had been out. Did we get attacked again? Did Aeron attack my family already? Did Dax manage to stop him, and Dali killed the demon? I shook my head no because I knew that wasn’t right. “Damn it!” I screamed, and the crying sounds stopped. Things began to get quiet as I pushed forward another step.

“Devana?”

I knew that voice. It was Dali, but the sniffling I heard had to be from a child. Meesha, maybe.

“I’m awake,” I said, trying and failing to open my eyes.

“Devana, are you in pain? You’re moaning,” Dali asked. I opened my mouth again and said I was awake, but I heard the moaning sound for myself this time. Okay, so I wasn’t quite there just yet.

“Is she awake?” A small voice asked. I knew it had to be Meesha, but I don’t understand why they had her in here. I had to look like shit.

“No, but getting close. She will be waking up soon,” Dali said.

“Dax…” I knew I had spoken this time. I could smell Dax slightly around me. I could feel the soft sheets around me, and I knew I had to be in his bed.

“There she is. Open those eyes for me, sis,” Dali coaxed.

“Devana! She’s awake!” Meesha’s little voice screamed. I could feel my sister’s soft hands checking my pulse and body for any wounds. I knew there weren’t any, and she didn’t need to worry. I didn’t know how to explain all this to our parents, but it had to happen soon. Dax was my Mate, and they will have to accept and deal with the choice I made.

“Vana, we have so much to do you need to get your lazy ass up,” Dali sighed. I took in a breath to say something smart out of my mouth, but everything came crashing back into my mind. I wasn’t laying here because I was turned. I had another vision. The vision! Shit! My eyes flew open to see a white ceiling with lights coming from another part of the room. The vision came back to me at speeds I didn’t know I could comprehend, but I guess things were different now that I am a shifter. I sat up and swung my legs to the side of the bed.

“Whoa, whoa, slow down, babe. You have been through a lot…”

“Did I miss the full moon?”

“What?”

“Dali, did I sleep through the full fucking moon?”

“No…why…”

“That bastard is going to start a War with Hunters against the wolf shifters by killing our House!”

“Shit!” Dali snapped. She had the same feeling that I did. This would be a disaster that will never be able to be fixed. Meesha made her way towards me, looking terrified.

“Devana, will you stop the bad man?” Meesha asked. Her eyes were wide, and I could tell whatever happened in the house scared her to death.

“We all will keep you safe, Meesha. We will keep you and every other shifter in this Pack safe,” I said. I scooped the little shifter in my arms and hugged her. I felt tiny arms wrap around my neck and squeezed. I felt her lips at my ear.

“I’m so glad you are our Luna, Devana,” she whispered. I felt a quick kiss on my cheek before she wiggled her way out of my arms and was gone. I felt my wolf’s eyes open at that moment, and I felt that she was ready for whatever needed to be done to keep our Pack safe.

Ididn’t wait for anyone, but I knew Thomas, Jarod and Remi were close behind me as I made it through the wooded area and leaped out of the tree line. I knew this was going to go viral because there were way too many cars on the highway. Highway I95 was busy at the best times, but I had to cross it to get to Jayla faster.

“Did Journee say how far she could be from the house?”I asked Dimitri. Car horns sounded, and screeches of tires and screams filled the morning. I dipped and dodged vehicles as I made my way to the other side.

“Only twenty miles away. Anymore, then the spell will not work. Where the fuck is she?”

“I can feel her, and she is moving. She has to be in a car.”
