Chapter Four

Wyatt woke with a start by the sound of someone knocking. It wasn’t just knocking, it was pounding. Loud and hard. Damn it. He’d fallen asleep. He started to move when he realized it wouldn’t be an easy escape. He was mostly naked and had a woman wrapped around him.

“Well this is new.”

He couldn’t remember the last time he’d woke up to a woman in his bed. Technically he was in hers but still, they were in a bed…together. And no clothes to boot. How did that even happen? He didn’t remember taking them off. He lifted the covers, relieved he still had his boxers on.

More knocking came from another part of the house. Wyatt lifted slightly to see Brooklyn’s alarm clock but it was off. He thought that was weird. Carefully, he lifted her arm off from around his waist and slid out from under the covers. After pulling on his clothes, he worked his way to the front door. One peak out the window and he opened the door immediately.

“Jesus, what the hell is going on with you.”

“Dane, great to see you too.”

“I’ve been calling you for two hours man, what happened?”

“What do you mean what happened? I was asleep.”

“We lost all connection to Brooklyn’s house. The cameras were taken out and all of the alarm triggers were dismantled. The wires to the house have been completely cut. Even the power lines. Does she have a landline?”

“I don’t think so no”

“Wyatt, where is she now?”

“She’s asleep. I think she took some meds to help her sleep. What the hell are we going to do now. Did you review any of the recordings?”

“Everything is gone Wyatt. There are no recordings. There’s nothing in her file at all. The Watchers was hacked last night while we all slept. It’s a fucking mess. I’m meeting with the Phoenix Agency in a little while to get some help.”

“What can I do?”

“Keep an eye on her. Don’t let her leave your sight. I don’t know what in the hell is going on but we need to catch the bastard that’s doing this. If that means setting up her house tonight, that’s what we’ll do.”

“I think I’ll take her to my place. We’ll drive around a while to make sure we’re not followed but with Axel in the house, he won’t let anyone near without a fight.”

“That’s a good idea. Get your cell charged too. I’m guessing it’s dead. All my calls went straight to voicemail.”

“Probably. I had it plugged in but if the power got cut, then yep. I had the volume on high so I would have heard it otherwise.”

“I need to go but get things around and get out of here as soon as you can. I’m sure the house is being watched.”

The men talked for another minute then Dane left. Wyatt shut the front door, secured the deadbolt and leaded against the door.

“Shit. What a mess.”

“What’s wrong?”

“Hey, I didn’t know you were awake.”

She walked right up to him and wrapped her arms around him.

“I think I got cold and it woke me up, then I could hear you talking. Who was here?”

“My partner Dane. Come on, let’s go back to the bedroom, we need to talk.”

Wyatt coaxed Brooklyn back into her bed and they both got under the covers to get warm. He started off by explaining that everything in the house seemed to still be secure but that there was a problem with the company security and hackers got in and wiped everything out. She did notice that her alarm clock was off but didn’t realize there was no power.

He also explained that they were going to pack her a bag or two and go to his apartment. His dog was there and he’d be perfect protection in case Wyatt had to leave her there alone. There were also a few of his buddies living in the same complex that he felt comfortable calling in for backup if need be.

“Okay let’s go.”
