“Are you good for a couple minutes? I need to make a phone call then I’ll be back and we’re going to talk.”

“I’ll be alright. I’m just going to lay down.”

She grabbed the blanket at the end of the couch but he took it from her hands and spread it over top of her.

“I’ll just be in the kitchen if you need anything, just holler.”

He probably thought she was a nut case and well, technically she was. She saw people with her mind that weren’t really there. Of course, he didn’t know that yet, she didn’t think. He was probably calling the psych ward at the hospital to get her admitted.

She didn’t blame him. Maybe she was safer there with a guard outside her door.

Maybe on the off chance that he believed what she was going to tell him when he came back, he would stick around and protect her. The security alarms and cameras were great and all but having a personal bodyguard would be best. And she’d kind of taken a liking to having him around, even though he’d only been there for a couple hours. Maybe it was the way he’d snatched her up into his arms that made her feel safe. Wouldn’t that make anyone feel protected?

Brooklyn snuggled down into the couch and pulled the blanket up around her neck. Maybe if she just closed her eyes and fell asleep quick, she could forget about the troubling vision she’d just had. Not likely. And with her luck, she’d fall asleep and dream of the vision.

“Dane I really need you to get these additional cameras up and running as fast as possible. I think there’s something going on she hasn’t told me but she just blacked out when she touched the tree in the back yard. I couldn’t reach her at all.”

He was worried. Extremely worried. She didn’t pass out but pretty much went comatose. He didn’t know she had that ability but he was certain she’d had a vision. He wanted to make sure he knew about everything she saw and all of her past as well. He wasn’t going to make her tell him the whole sorted story. He’d rather have the company dive into her ex-husband and find out what they could.

He had a horrible feeling this guy wasn’t going to stop until he had her back, and Wyatt wasn’t going to let that happen.

“Thanks, and I know this isn’t part of the job but I really think I should stay here tonight if she’s okay with it. Please do me a favor and find out as much as you can about her ex-husband. I think he’s a lot more trouble than we realize. The Phoenix Agency might need to take a crack at him as well.”

Wyatt thanked his partner and ended the call.

He needed a beer. He wasn’t going to leave her though. He was even willing to go as far as not taking no for an answer if she didn’t want him to stay.

He approached Brooklyn on the couch, afraid she might have fallen asleep but her eyes were wide open so he took a seat at the other end.

“Hey.”

“Hey, thanks for being here. I know you don’t know me from Adam but it makes me feel so much better having you near.”

“Thanks. That’s actually what I was going to talk to you about.”

“What do you mean?”

This was going to be easier than he thought. She’d pretty much just opened the door for him.

“I know I don’t really know all of what’s going on but after what happened to you outside, I would feel a lot better if you let me spend the night. Now before you say no, it would…”

“Absolutely, yes!”

“Really?”

“Are you kidding? A bodyguard is just what I need, not that that’s what you are but I feel safe around you.”

“Actually, if that’s what you want, then you’ve got one.”

“A bodyguard?”

“Yep. And you made it easy for me. I can only make a guess as to what happened outside but I was going to tell you that I’m not leaving here tonight. I’ll be on the couch til morning, was just hoping you’d be okay with it.”

“Wyatt, you don’t know how much better that makes me feel. And you are sure you’re okay with staying here? Do you need to get anything from your house?”

“Nope, I’ve got everything I need. So, do you want to tell me what happened outside?”
