“What?” The female officer who was fingerprinting him stopped and stared. “Holy crap!” She released his hand and scrambled to pull her cell phone out of her pants pocket, leaving ink prints all over the case as she took a picture.

Grayson cringed. He had little doubt that it would be all over the Internet within hours. Deacon would not be happy with the bad press. It was one thing to get thrown in jail and another to have the information released to the general public. And once the female officer took a picture, everyone seemed to have a cell phone in hand, snapping pictures.

The officer who had arrested him looked appalled. “He is Grayson Beaumont? You’ve got to be kidding? Why would women want to wear panties made by this guy?”

The sergeant sent him an annoyed look. “I’m going to assume that you have a good reason for arresting Mr. Beaumont, Officer Spencer?”

It took only a few minutes to get the facts straight. Grayson apologized for the large bump on Officer Spencer’s chin, and Officer Spencer apologized for jumping to conclusions. Once they were released, Grayson posed with every policewoman and female office worker at the precinct before he asked about Chloe. She had been taken to another area to be processed, and by the time he explained what happened and got her released, she didn’t look happy. Not happy at all.

“You’re just as big of a jerk as every other guy,” she said before she walked out the door. He had to squelch the desire to go after her. He was still staring at the door when the sergeant walked up.

“She’s sure a pretty little thing. She reminds me of that actress inMy Fair Lady. What was her name?”

“I don’t know. I’ve never seen the movie.”

“Well, it’s a good one. I loved the scene where the drunk dad is getting married.” She used a thick English accent as she sang in an off-key voice about getting married in the morning. When Grayson glanced at her, she cleared her throat. “Anyway, it was a good movie, and your friend sure looks like her. Which I guess is why you hired her to model for you.”

“She’s not modeling for me.” Grayson didn’t know if he was reminding himself or the sergeant. “And we’re not friends.”

The sergeant looked confused. “But she told me she’d changed her name. That was why a different one popped up when we scanned her prints.”

Grayson turned to her. “Chloe changed her name? From what?”

The sergeant shook her head. “I can’t release that information, but I can tell you that she hasn’t always been Chloe McAlister.”
