“You asshole.” I glared at him.

“I tried to tell you.” He shrugged, apathetically. It was like a switch had been flipped and there was no way I was going to break through that wall right now.

My gaze narrowed. “Yea… I guess you did.” I left his room and walked up the several flights of stairs to mine and shut the door. I tried not to slam it because I didn’t want to draw attention to any drama in the house.

I laid on my bed and stared out of the window, trying to let my body wind down.

Why was he being like that? It was absolutely infuriating!

I know he wanted me as much as I wanted him. I could feel it in his kiss and saw it in his pants. He was lashing out because he wanted to hurt me… why? To show me he is what he keeps saying.

I don’t buy it.

I knew the real him, even if he didn’t.

Chapter twenty-six

Gage - On the Run

Itshockedmetosee Snow in such a good mood at dinner. I was fairly certain I had pissed her off, which I didn’t feel the slightest bit guilty about.

She needed to learn.

She needed to stay away.

I needed to stay away. I tried, but there was something about her that pulled me to her like a magnet, and it was infuriating. It was too dangerous for me to be around her and I didn’t want to hurt her.

And I would. I know I would. It’s what I do…

Most of dinner Garrison regaled the table with stories about Snow growing up in the castle. Part of me was jealous he got to grow up with her and the other part couldn’t understand how he could be so close to the dark Queen for years and not go after her.

She was all my father, and as a result, Garrison talked about when I was growing up. How to kill her… how to make her pay. And there he was visiting the grounds weekly and didn’t do a damn thing. Maybe if he’d done his job, then I wouldn’t have-

“Isn’t that right broth-” Garrison caught himself. “Isn’t that right?”

“What?” I asked, less than amused.

“You used to be an amazing cook! Even at eight.” He said jubilantly, like it was a good thing.

I rolled my eyes. “I had to, so I didn’t starve since father was never around and you didn’t really give a damn.” I caught Barrett’s expression out of the corner of my eye and plastered a fake smile on my face.

Calix, trying to maintain the good mood, teased, “Well, perhaps you can cook for us one night, Gage.”

“Doubtful.”

Snow chuckled. “He’d probably poison it or something.”

I glared at her as the rest of the table burst into laughter and she glared right back with a hint of a smirk.

FUCK!

I wanted to wipe that little smirk off her face. Fuck her until her eyes rolled in the back of her head and she was reeling from the orgasm I just gave her. A memory of the night in the tavern flashed through my mind, causing my cock to twitch… I needed to get away.

“Ok. Well, if you’re all done, I will take my leave.” I stood up and took my plate over to the sink and made my way upstairs. I needed to get away from her because everytime she looked at me, it was like a burst of pheromones engulfed me. I knew I could have her in my bed again without even trying and while part of me wanted that, the other part knew what happened before was a mistake and could never happen again.

I laid in my bed, staring at the ceiling and could hear the house had moved the party to the campfire in the back. The smell of smoke and bosom berries filled the air. And her.

I could still smell her.
