Nervousness bombarded me and I contemplated texting him to say I couldn’t make it. Suddenly feeling queasy, I was sure I was getting sick and could use that as my excuse. As I was about to reach for my phone the doorbell rang.

“Oh no, no, no,” I whispered to the empty room.

Rowan couldn’t be early, I wasn’t ready at all. I sprang to my feet as Zander hooted and hollered that we had company while running down the hall.

“Don’t you dare open that door when you don’t know who it is!” I told him, following hot on his heels.

My legs were longer than his and we reached the door at the same time. I glanced down at my fuzzy bathrobe I’d tossed on while looking for something to wear and groaned. It was not how I wanted to start the date.

“Mommy, pick me up and let me check the peephole,” Zander asked.

Doing as he requested, I grabbed my son and hiked him up high enough for him to put his eye to the hole.

“Let me down!” he said excitedly as he wiggled to get out of my grasp. Setting him on the ground he turned to me. “It’s Summer and Dexter so it’s okay, right, Mommy?”

Well someone was early but I sighed in relief that it wasn’t Rowan. After opening the door the boys cheered enthusiastically and ran off toward Zander’s new room.

“Sorry we’re early, I thought maybe you might like some company while you got ready and I brought some clothes just in case.” Summer held up a cute yellow bag that looked stuffed to the brim. “If you’re anything like the rest of us when we had our first dates with the man of our dreams, your room probably looks like a war zone.” She gave me her usual, sweet smile, but this time there was a know-it-all smirk lurking behind it.

I giggled. “Like World War III.”

She nodded. “I got to get a look at it, but I can’t promise you won’t be teased about it later, and not just by me.”

“Oh geez.” I groaned as I shut the door and then we headed toward my room. When we entered, Summer busted out laughing. “I knew it!”

“Oh, hush,” I sassed. “Show me what you got in the bag. I need serious help here.”

As she laid out all the clothes she had in the bag, I thought not for the first time that Summer had some serious style. I rummaged through the selections and held up the outfit that called to me.

“You sure you don’t mind if I borrow it?”

Summer rolled her eyes. “Are you kidding? I would mind if you didn’t. That’s what friends are for.”

“Well, since you want to be such a good friend, how about helping with my hair and makeup?” I asked her with a pleading, but unsure look.

“I thought you’d never ask.” She squealed and clapped her hands. “And wait until you see the gift from the girls and me,” she added with a smirk.

I was almost scared to find out what the present was, but we set out to get me ready for my date and I hoped Rowan would like what he saw.

“Are you going to come in?”I asked Rowan, who stood outside the door in the hall, not moving.

“Just give me a minute, Buttercup.” His gaze roamed up and down the length of me. “Let me appreciate the view for a moment.”

The thorough assessment that was coming from his dark, potent eyes had a quiver racing through my body and dampness settling in the sexy, pink-laced undies the girls had bought for me, along with a bra to match.

I bit my lip in anticipation as Rowan finally walked toward me like a cat on the prowl. With a gleam in his eyes, I had a fraction of a second to register what was coming my way. One strong arm circled my waist as he pulled me in close to him, his other hand going to the side of my neck, and his mouth landed on mine.

Without thought, I opened automatically and he deepened the kiss. Our tongues dueled, teeth nipped, and the taste of Rowan’s minty fresh breath, mixed with his earthy scent was an aphrodisiac that had me going wild in his arms. I moaned into his mouth and I felt his desire pressing into me. Then he softly broke the kiss and a whine of protest left my lips.

I wanted more.

Leaning his forehead against mine, we both fought to get our breath under control. “If we don’t get the date started I won’t be letting you out of here.”

An unladylike snort escaped me and I buried my face against his hard chest in embarrassment.Way to go, Brin, I’m sure he can’t wait to get into those sexy panties now.

“You’re adorable,” he said, causing another snort.
