Fine. Just get here and get it done fast.

This was not turning out to be my day. The moon hung high in the sky as I trekked through the large back yard. I’d asked Adam to watch my place for me while Tessa and I were at the main house. My breath exited me in a cloud of mist.

“Gosh, it’s cold.”

She’d brought the cookies. I could already smell them. Looking over, my heart plummeted when I noticed the small plastic bag that held half a dozen cookies in it.

“What?” she asked, seeing my crestfallen expression.

“You didn’t bring the whole package?”

“Uh, no. You do not need the entire package. You’re going to kill yourself. You’d think that since you are a Healing Elemental, you’d know that, but you’re acting like an idiot.” She enjoyed insulting me a little too much.

“Whatever. When we get inside, I need you to stay by my side and do what I say when I say it. Drew’s very overprotective of his mate, and he’s not going to like you being with me.”

“Aren’t we supposed to be working on this whole trust thing?” she asked as we ascended the stairs to the back deck.

“Yes, but Drew is picky about who he lets near them. We’re going to their room, Drew’s haven with Jazz. Not even Nate could cross the entry without issue.”

“So, I should what? Consider it an honor or something?”

My hand rested on the backdoor handle as I turned to her. “It’s time you stop talking. Drew is more dominant than me. If he gives an order and puts Elemental power behind it, I have no choice but to obey. His strength is limitless, and I cannot match him physically.”

“So, you’re saying he can best you in a fight.”

“No, I can hold my own against him. However, youcannot best him in a fight. Magic won’t work, so don’t try. Just keep your mouth closed and your hands to yourself unless you’re told otherwise.”

Her scowl was the best acknowledgement I was going to receive that she’d at least heard me. Whether she adhered to my warnings would be seen soon.

Drew was pacing the length between the kitchen and living rooms. He looked up with an even deeper scowl than Tessa wore and marched up the stairs without a word. I deflated even more. Between him and Tessa, my ego was going to take a beating.

Slapping a fake cheerful smile on my face for Jazz was difficult, but I made sure it was plastered on my face before entering the room.

“Hello, beautiful!” I winked at her, earning a growl from Drew, but I didn’t care. “Tessa, stand by the door and stay quiet.”

“You could say please.”

I turned and narrowed my eyes on her at the unneeded reply. She only smirked and waved her hand at me to proceed to my patient. With a huff, I had no choice but to comply, and it grated on a nerve.

“Hey Jeff. I don’t feel very good.” Jazz was pale and looked like she didn’t feel well.

Placing both my hands on her cheeks, I quickly found the triggers for the high blood pressure and fixed everything up.

I smiled down at her when I’d finished. “There you go. You’re all set for the night. Now, the next time you feel bad, do not let me be the one who has to tell Drew.”

The small redhead rolled her eyes and rubbed her stomach.

“Go to sleep, Jazz, but first grab as much blood from Drew as you can, and then do it every day.”

Her brows furrowed. “I already do that once a day.”

“Then start twice a day. He’s not going to complain, and I’ll help his blood levels rise again.” I gave her an encouraging smile, but I feared it looked more like a grimace.

“Jeff.” Jazz glared up at me, and my shoulders fell. Not again. “You need rest. Why are you taking this protection job? Let Adam take over. I’d give you Drew, but I’m selfish.”

“I’m okay, Jazz.”

“You’re burning the candle at both ends, Healer. Your brothers might not see it or might be ignoring it, but even I know your sweet tooth has become worse, and it’s my fault.” Tears pooled in her eyes, and I placed my hand on the girl’s cheek and gave her a small smile.
