Mate. I finally had one. My Consort was now also my Elemental mate.

“Are you hungry?” she asked as I buried my nose in her hair and sighed. Her scent was intoxicating.

“I could use a bite to eat.”

She pulled back and I opened my eyes to look at her. Her brows were furrowed in concern. “You’ve been scanning Jazz and the babies still?”

“Not as often.” Still, it was draining.

“You need food. Let’s go. I’ll make us something. The girls taught me a bit of kitchen protocol while you were delivering babies.”

“Tessa.” I grabbed her hand before she could stand. “We should have had this talk before, and I know it’s a little late, but we didn’t use protection.”

She leaned in and kissed me. “I want kids, Jefferson. I don’t care when they come.”

Happiness lightened my heart. “Okay. I’m glad to hear that. I want kids too.”

When she went to move from the bed, as much as I hated to, I let her go.

“Rest, mate.” She grinned when calling me the name, dressing in my pajama pants and hoodie. “I’m going to attempt to make us some food. While I’m gone, try to get some sleep.”

I wanted to go with her, but she was right. We had a lot happening, and I was still scanning Drew’s family. Jazz and the kids were doing great. Ruby had helped Jazz learn to nurse them, but they’d already discussed the need to supplement, so they were prepared with bottles.

Do you like scrambled eggs? It’s the easiest thing to make with the food you have.Hearing her voice in my head made me the happiest man. I’d never expected it to feel this good.

Incoming! We have intruders on Jeff’s side. Over one hundred coming at us. They are a mix of the races.

Get them out of here!Drew yelled over Carmon. He was close to losing it.

I’m on it.I was out of bed and pulling on pants as I descended the stairs.

“We’ve got company and not the good kind.” I slammed my feet into my boots. “Stay here while I take care of them.”

She was already on the move. “You’re crazy if you think I’m sitting still for this. You might not die by magic, but they will.”

There was no time to keep her back. I was already pushing my Healing element out to find the enemy as I rocketed down my front porch steps. They were twenty yards from my house, closer than I’d imagined they could be. Cal must have been in a deep sleep when they’d come through. This side of Drew’s property had more land than the other. We should have known they were here much before now.

We’re on our way!Carmon called to me.

You’d better hurry, then, or you’re going to miss the fun.To my mate, I said,I need you to stay away from me out here. I’m not sure if my element can kill you, but I won’t take the chance.I’d told Tessa about my element, but now she was going to see it in action. Not a good thing.

I was on top of the intruders. Magic flittered across my skin, not Tessa or Nate’s, and the glowing eyes of red pupils reflected by the moon announced the Demons.

Give us a bright light, little one. The brightest you’ve got.

I hadn’t even finished giving her the order when a bright light rose overhead.

"Oh my gosh," she whispered before we were overtaken by the enemy.

Every race from this world was coming for us. If Borgman wanted to know if we could work together, well, apparently, we could.

It was the worst fight I'd ever been in, and I'd been in some tough spots. The girl still behind me, the one fighting with the enemy I couldn't stop from racing past me, was the cause. If I'd been on my own, this would have been fun, but all I could imagine was their teeth sinking into her soft, pale skin. It made me gag.

My anger erupted when I heard her cry out after a dozen men passed me.

I'm okay. Keep your head.

Yeah, we were past that. Red swirling power leaked out of my hands. The next enemy—a Vampire—to come close felt my power. In the next breath, after I grabbed him around the neck, his body half blew up, half disintegrated. The tiny pieces that were once his body flew away in the wind. More enemy came. More were destroyed.
