The back door was opened and held for us by Adam.

Carmon guided me to a couch. "Get a blanket and wrap it around Jeff. Tessa, give him some blood. Ladies, how's the food going? We need to get some into Jeff before he passes out on us."

Tessa followed us, and when I was wrapped in a blanket and she in another, settled on the couch, she held out her wrist for me. Her blood was sweet, but I had little energy to become super excited. I couldn't see how Carmon was going to put food in my stomach. It needed to be in front of my face right now.

Somehow it did get there, and Tessa helped me eat the pasta.

"You're so pale still." She adjusted the pillow under my head when I lay down after the meal.

"We've got more company, but they're Light heading up the driveway." Carmon headed for the front door with Jonas Hamilton and Nate right behind him.

"What is going on tonight?" Tessa looked around the room. "Does anyone have a shirt Jeff can borrow?"

"I'll check with Drew. He's upstairs with Jazz and the babies." Chris headed up the stairs.

Carmon and Nate rushed back into the house in front of a group I recognized as the rest of the Council, with Silvia Nash and Patrick Rico noticeably absent. Jonas came inside last. Drew was going to be livid. All of our new guests, though, looked distraught and upset.

"What's going on?" Adam asked. The large house was beginning to feel small with so many people.

Angel Tullis, the woman who, with Leo, had sent Grace and Dalton on their Demon scavenger hunt, stepped forward.

"Rico and Nash are dead. Their vehicle was found two hours ago. It was destroyed and their bodies burned. My home was broken into and many of my security detail killed."

Asa Duncan, an old man, leaned against Ernest Borgman. "The same is true for me and Kurt Kinkaide. Though, they succeeded in killing him and destroying his estate."

Estelle Lawson had tears rolling down her cheeks. "My husband is dead. He died saving my life. We were attacked by a combination of races. What is going on?"

Angel Tullis wrapped her arms around the older woman.

What is going on?Dalton asked when Carmon had relayed what was happening to Chris and Drew, who were missing.

Are we wrong?Chris asked. Is it not a member of the Council? Were we misled?

No one had an answer as the Council continued to stand in the house by the stairs and front door. Even Borgman was unusually quiet.

I rose from the couch, dropping the blanket to keep from looking overly weak. The food and blood had helped enough. The Council watched me approach.

"Estelle Lawson." The mourning woman looked over at me.

"Yes?"

"Are you a traitor to your people?"

"No! Of course not!" Truth.

"Dion Sanders, are you a traitor to your people?"

"Never." The man looked offended that I would ask. Also, truth.

"Ernest Borgman, Angel Tullis, are you traitors to your people?"

"No." They both answered at the same time. All truth.

"Jonas Hamilton, Asa Duncan, same question. Are you traitors?"

"No." Truth from Asa.

"No." Truth from Jonas.
