"Oh, well I had a glass of wine," Alice said, "maybe two."

"Oh my gosh. Lucky."

"I mean, but I'm hungry."

"What do you want to eat? We can get whatever you want.”

“You know what I really fancy?”

“Tell me.”

“It’s going to sound really bad.”

“No. What is it?”

“I really want some fried chicken.” She looked at Oliver and at Foster; they were both laughing.

“Fried chicken! Now, that sounds delicioso,” Foster said with a nod. “Welcome to New York City. I think I know just the place.”

“You do?”

“You forget. I love me some fried chicken,” Foster said. “I know every good fried chicken place in Manhattan, and some in Brooklyn too.”

“Oh, well. I guess you live, and you learn.”

“Okay. Do you see your bags yet?” Foster asked Alice.

She shook her head. “Oh wait, there’s one, that pink one.”

Oliver stepped forward and grabbed it.

“And the other pink one that’s coming.”

“I see we have a theme here,” Oliver said, his eyes sparkling. He gave me a quick look, and I smiled back at him warmly.

I felt at peace with my life. I felt like everything was really coming together, and that I was where I was meant to be. I was almost positive that nothing could ruin this moment.

I was young. I was single. I was sleeping with the guy I’d had a crush on for most of my life. And the sex was amazing. Nothing could ruin this moment. I was living the time of my life. All I needed now was to find a job that I loved, and everything would be perfect.

I smiled at Alice, and she smiled back at me. I couldn't wait to tell her everything that was going on. I knew I told Oliver that I wasn't going to tell anyone, but Alice was my best friend. There was no way I was not going to share the most important news of my life with her as soon as we had two moments together. Oliver didn't have to know. And I knew Alice. There's no way she would slip up and say anything in front of my brother.

Chapter30

Rosalie

"This place is absolutely amazing," Alice said as we got ready in Oliver's bathroom. "I can't believe I'm here."

"I know. Isn't it absolutely gorgeous? I was shocked when I got here. I did not think my brother and Oliver had such good taste in furniture."

"Yeah, right? Since when?" She smiled at me. "You look like you're glowing, Rosalie. New York has been really good to you."

"Thank you," I said. I opened the door and looked outside the bathroom to make sure Foster and Oliver weren't standing outside, and then I closed it again. "I have something to tell you," I whispered.

"Oh?" Alice stopped applying her mascara and stared at me. "Tell me now, everything."

"Oh my gosh. You have to promise not to react crazily."

"Of course I won't. What's going on?"
