"Of course. I love kids."

"You have a good doctor's appointment," I said. I reached down and grabbed Maddie's hand. "Come on, Maddie. You want to go play school and have some popcorn?"

"Yes, please, Rosalie." She grabbed Alice's hand, as well. "Alice, I like your hair. It's pretty."

"Thank you, Maddie. You have pretty hair, as well." We walked into the elevator and then made our way to the apartment. I opened the door to see if anyone was home.

"You want to have a seat on the couch, Maddie, and I'll make the popcorn and get you some juice?"

"Okay," she said.

"You sure this is okay?" I said to Alice. "I know you didn't sign up to be a babysitter."

"No, it's fine. She's really sweet, and we weren't doing anything anyway. We were just going to watch TV."

"Yeah, true," I said. "Thanks for being so understanding."

"There's nothing to be understanding about. I love kids." We spent the rest of the afternoon playing games with Maddie and eating popcorn, and then two hours later, her grandad arrived.

"Hi," he said. "Thank you so much for looking after her. I hope everything was okay."

"It was brilliant. I had an amazing time."

"I'm glad," he said, smiling. "Come on, Maddie. I've got to take you home in a little bit."

"Okay, Grandad." Maddie ran out to me and hugged me. "Thank you so much, Miss Rosalie. You are the best teacher ever."

"Thank you. I appreciate that," I beamed. "And you're the best student ever."

"I know. I get A's and gold stars all the time."

I laughed.

"You guys have a great evening."

"We will," Maddie said. Rich stood there for a couple of seconds.

"Hey, is everything okay?" I asked him, hoping that he hadn't had a bad time at the doctor.

"Yeah, everything's fine, but I was just thinking..."

"Oh?"

"Well, Maddie's school is looking for teachers and teacher's assistants, and I was wondering if you'd be interested."

"Oh, I would love to, but I don't have a teaching certification or anything. I just have my bachelor's in English literature."

"Then I think you'd probably be able to start as a teacher's assistant. And if you like that, you could get your certification." He nodded. "If you want, I can put a word in for you at the school."

"That would be so amazing. I am looking for a job right now."

"Okay, cool. Would you like that, Maddie? Would you like Rosalie to teach at your school?"

"Oh my gosh. That would make me the happiest girl in the world," she said. "Bye, Rosalie." She hugged me again, and then she waved to Alice, who was sitting on the couch. "Bye, Alice."

"Bye, Maddie, so good seeing you. You too, Rich. Have a great evening."

"Bye."
