"No, I would have felt amazing because I would have been deflowered by the hottest guy I've ever met in my life."

"Rosalie, yeah, you would have been elated for five seconds, and then you would have been like, 'What the fuck? Why isn't he proposing to me, and why aren't we getting our own place on Fifth Avenue?'"

"I don't talk like that, Alice."

"I know, but look, he's a man, and obviously, he wanted you because you were about to do it. The fact that he was able to walk away says a lot about his character."

"Alice, are you my best friend or his best friend?"

"Sorry," she said. "He's a dick. End of story."

"Exactly. That's all I want to hear."

"Fine," she said. "But can we not move to the Bronx? I really don't want to move there."

"You love J-Lo, though."

"So?"

"J-Lo's from the Bronx."

"Yeah, but she doesn't live there now, does she?"

"Touche." I laughed. "Well, I'm really excited to see you tomorrow."

"I'm excited to see you, too. So you and Oliver still coming to pick me up or?"

"Yeah, we're coming, but if you're not talking to him."

"It's fine, Alice. He booked your flights, and he knows what airport we're going to and at what time."

"True, but I don't want it to be awkward when I get there. I mean, am I allowed to talk to him, or...?"

I frowned slightly as I realized the conundrum I was putting her in. It wasn't like Alice could arrive and ignore her too. He had bought her ticket, and he was picking her up at the airport. Even I wasn't that immature to think I could expect my best friend to ignore him just because I was.

"It's fine. You can talk to him too."

"Can I be friendly with him?"

"I mean, if you want to."

She sighed.

"This sounds like it's going to be uncomfortable."

I thought about it for a few moments.

"I know, but…"

"But nothing. I mean, I totally understand where you're coming from, and I support you 100 percent. And we will get jobs, and we will save money, and we will look for our own place. In Manhattan, though, or the nicer parts of Brooklyn."

"Yeah, so I saw a couple of places, and they were two grand."

"Two grand? Okay, that's doable-ish if we split the rent."

"Yeah, I think so. We just have to get jobs."

"Yeah, and I guess we could do anything."
