"Well, when I called you on the phone, and when I was emailing you, you didn't really seem that excited about me coming to stay."

"Yeah, well…" He gave me a lazy grin. "I can't let you have life too easy, right?"

"Oh, Foster," I said, love in my heart for my big brother. "You're such a goof."

"And how have you and Oliver been getting along?" he asked, staring at me casually.

"Um, fine. Why? What did he say?"

"Nothing," he said, shaking his head. "Actually, I haven't even spoken to him."

"Oh, that's good."

"Why? Is there something I should know?" He raised an eyebrow.

"Of course not."

"You're not making life difficult for him, are you? You know he splits the rent with me here, so it's really a lot for him to expect my sister and her best friend to stay. So you need to be on your best behavior."

"It's fine. I would never do anything to upset Oliver. He's the most wonderful man I've ever met," I said sarcastically.

Foster looked at me with clear, light-brown eyes.

"Hmm. That doesn't exactly ring true, but I'll take you at your word."

"It's fine. Oliver's amazing."

"Okay. Well, if you say so. I'm going to go into my room and take a shower. It's been a long day, but you want me to take you to breakfast later? Maybe a late brunch?"

"Yes, please! I was just about to make something, but O... I hadn't decided what I wanted yet."

"Okay. Well, give me twenty minutes, and I'll be out."

"Sounds good," I said. "Thanks, Foster."

"You're welcome, sis."

I watched as he walked into his bedroom, and then I went and sat down on the couch and leaned back. Well, I had a decision to make. I was going to have to be friendly to Oliver now because there was no way I could act like a bitch now that Foster was back, or he would know something was up.

Chapter21

Rosalie

Foster and I were watching TV after our late breakfast, discussing my plans for the future. When I heard the door opening, I bit down on my lower lip, knowing that I would have to put on a show so that Foster didn't question what was happening. The door opened slowly, and Oliver walked in. Immediately, he looked over at the couch. His eyes widened when he saw Foster. "Dude, you didn't tell me you were coming back early."

Foster jumped off the couch. "Yeah, I figured my little sister is here. It's not right to leave you to suffer."

"Very funny, Foster," I said, rolling my eyes. "Hey, Oliver. How was work today?" I said, offering him a huge smile.

His lips twisted slightly, and he raised a single eyebrow as he looked at me. "It was pretty good. Thank you. How was your day?"

"Oh, great. I was so excited to see Foster, and we went to breakfast, and we've just been discussing what jobs I should look for." I smiled at him winningly. "I'm so excited for us to pick up Alice tomorrow. Foster knows she's coming. I gather you didn't tell him, after all."

"I didn't tell him." Oliver shook his head. "No, I didn't tell him. Was I supposed to?"

"I thought you said you were going to. That's why I didn't call him."

"Uh-huh," Oliver said. "I think I'm going to need a beer."
