"Anyway, Alice. Say hello to Foster."

"Okay. Sure." She sounded girlish, and I frowned slightly.

"Here you go, Foster."

"Hey Alice, how's it going?" He spoke into the phone.

I watched my brother, smiling.

"When are we going to see you? I feel like it's been such a long time." He paused.

Oh shit,I thought to myself. I hoped that Alice didn't tell him that she was arriving tomorrow because then I knew I was going to be in deep shit and the huge smile that Foster had given me would soon turn to a frown.

"You what?" he said, turning to me. "Ha! No, I didn't know." He pointed his fingers at me, and he frowned. "Well, okay then. Yeah, I’ll speak to my sister about this, and I guess I'll see you tomorrow. I won't hand you back to Rosalie right now because she and I need to chat. But you have a good day, Alice." He hung up the phone, folded his arms, and glared at me.

"Alice is moving to New York, and she's moving in?"

"Yeah, and...?" I said, giving him my best smile. "I thought that..."

"You thought what, Rosalie? You didn't even ask me."

"Oliver said it was okay. Oliver got the ticket. He—"

Foster let out a deep sigh. "You've got to be joking." He shook his head. "I go away for less than a week, and my sister and her best friend are now living with me?"

"What? Don't you like Alice?"

He looked at me for a couple of seconds, and his eyes narrowed.

"This has nothing to do with whether or not I like Alice. This is going to complicate everything."

"What do you mean? It's going to complicate what? It's fine. Once we get jobs, and we save up enough money, we'll get our own place."

"Uh-huh," he said. He handed me my phone. "Oh, Rosalie. I've missed you, but what a whirlwind you've already brought with you."

"What are you talking about? What confusion?"

"Nothing," he said. "Come on, give me another hug."

I hugged my brother, and he kissed my forehead.

"I have missed you, you know."

"I missed you too."

"How's the job search going?" he asked as he stepped back.

"Um... I've seen some promising leads that I'm hoping will lead to something else." I gave him my most winning smile.

"Okay, and how are you doing for cash?"

"I'm fine. Mom and Dad gave me a thousand dollars, and I have nine hundred and something of it left."

"Okay. That's good. Well, you let me know if you need anything before you get a job."

"Really?" I asked him in surprise. "You'd help me out?"

"Of course, I would. You don't think I'd just leave you hanging, did you?"
