I turned my phone off, then sat back and smiled. Oh, Oliver, I'm going to let you stew on that for a long, long time.

Chapter24

Rosalie

"Wow. Dinner is amazing," I said, beaming at Oliver and Foster. "Do we have time to get dessert?"

"I don't know, Rosalie." Foster stared at his watch. "You're the one who booked the tickets for the comedy show. What time does it start?"

"Nine o’clock, but I don't know how far away it is from here."

"Didn't you check to make sure that the restaurant was close to the comedy show?" Foster sounded annoyed.

I pressed my lips together. He was really trying to ruin my buzz. "So Oliver," I said sweetly, "you've been quiet all evening."

"Have I?" he said, raising a single eyebrow. "I thought you were the queen of quiet."

"Huh?" Foster said, looking at Oliver. "Since when has Rosalie been quiet? She knows how to talk a mile a minute."

"Very funny, Foster. Hold on. Let me check my phone and see. I put the address to the comedy show in Google Maps. Oh, it's only a seven-minute walk from here. We're fine. I'm going to get the cheesecake. Or should I get the creme brulée?"

"I don't know. Get whatever you want," Foster said.

"Why are you in such a bad mood?"

"I don't know," he said, frowning. "Maybe because—"

"Maybe because what? Is it Amelia?" Oliver asked him curiously.

"Who's Amelia?" I said, looking at Oliver and then looking at my brother. "You never told me about any Amelia."

"That's because she's not important," Oliver said, sighing.

"Um, but who is she if she's not important." I looked at Oliver. "You brought her up, so tell me who she is."

"It's really not for me to tell," he said, shaking his head. "It's your brother's friend."

"Your friend or your friends with benefit?"

Foster looked at me and rolled his eyes. "Oh my gosh. Really, Rosalie?"

"What? I want to know who Amelia is and why she's got you in such a bad mood."

"Fine. Amelia was a lady I was dating, and we have not gone out in a while."

"But?"

"But what?"

"She's back in town tomorrow," Oliver said, shrugging as he looked at Foster. "Sorry, bro. But you know she was going to get it out of you eventually, and we didn't want this to drag on all night."

"It's fine. Yep. She's a lady I’ve kind of seen, and she's back in town tomorrow."

"So who cares? New York's a really big place."

"She lives in the building," Oliver said, his lips twitching.

"Ah," I said. "And what? She doesn't get the hint that you're not interested."
