"Maybe because Foster didn't exactly tell her," Oliver said, laughing.

"What?" I stared at him. "What do you mean you didn't tell her?"

"Look, it was casual," he said, shrugging. "I didn't think it was any big thing. We met in the elevator one day. We hooked up a couple of times, but then she got a little bit clingy. I wasn't interested, so I stopped answering her calls. But then she saw Oliver and asked Oliver how I was doing. Oliver told her that I was away on business, so now she thinks that the reason I haven't been calling or answering her messages is because I was at a very important work meeting."

"How do you know this?" I asked curiously.

"Because she's texted me a billion times saying, 'Oh, I forgive you. Don't worry about it. I went away on a long cruise, and I'm coming back tomorrow. So when you get back...'" Foster paused. "Well, you get the gist of it."

"Ah, so she's back tomorrow, and she wants to resume things with you, hey?"

"Well, just be a man about it and tell her you're not interested."

"She's crazy," Oliver said, grinning. "Like really crazy."

"She can't be any crazier than Diana," I said, staring at him.

Oliver groaned. "Well, Diana is also crazy but in a different way."

"Diana was a bitch," I said. "I'm sorry, but how you slept with that—"

Foster held his hand up. "Hold on a minute. You met Diana and you know the situation? You didn't tell me this."

"I met her when we went to Oliver's work event the other day at The Ritz-Carlton."

"I didn't know you went to The Ritz Carlton with Oliver for his work event." He frowned. "What else are you guys not telling me?"

"Nothing," I said as I quickly picked up my wineglass and chugged. Oliver looked around for the server.

"I think we should be ordering desserts soon so we can get it quickly."

Foster didn't seem to realize something was up. "So anyway, Amelia is in town tomorrow, and Alice is in town tomorrow. I just don't want there to be any complications."

"What complications?" I stared at my brother. "You're not planning on making a move on Alice, are you?"

"What? No. Of course not. Why would you think that? I would never make a move on your friend. She's young and immature, just like you."

"Uh-huh." I stared at my brother through narrowed eyes. "I think you're being way too defensive. But just in case you're really trying to play mind games with me, Alice is off-limits to you."

"Excuse me?" he said, lifting up his glass of wine and finishing it. "What do you mean, Alice is off-limits to me?"

"Alice is my best friend, and she deserves the world. She deserves a man who will treat her like a princess, just like I do." I gave Oliver a pointed look. "And, well, Foster, it seems like you can't even communicate with women. I definitely don't want you playing around with Alice."

"I'm not interested in playing around with Alice, so don't worry about it in the meantime," he said.

"Well, then why are you so concerned that Alice is coming tomorrow and Amelia is coming back to town tomorrow?"

"I just don't want Amelia thinking that Alice and I have something."

"Hmm, okay. And why would Amelia think that?"

"You don't know Amelia." Oliver interrupted. "There you are."

"Hello? How can I help you? You called me over, sir?" The server stopped next to the table.

"Yes. Rosalie here would like to order some dessert."

"Yes, please." I beamed up at the handsome server. "Do you recommend the creme brulée or the strawberry cheesecake or the chocolate tort or... I have an idea." I paused and looked at my brother and Oliver. "What if each of us orders one, and then we can try a piece of each other's?"
