"I don't want to have dessert," Foster said. "What a waste of calories and way too much sugar and carbs."

"Oh, you're a bore, Foster." I rolled my eyes. I looked at Oliver. "What do you think?"

"I don't really do dessert," he said, shrugging.

"Okay." I was disappointed. "So then, what do you recommend?"

The server gave me a conspiratorial grin. "Well, you can always get all three desserts yourself and try each of them. There's nothing that says you have to finish all of them."

"Ah, that's true," I said, beaming at him. "Thank you, Carlos."

"No worries. Your name was Rosalie?"

"Yeah. I'm new to town. I'm living with my brother and his best friend until I find my place and find a job."

"Oh, well, if you're looking for a job, we're hiring here."

"You are? For what positions?"

"Serving, hosting, bussing." He grinned at me. "But I have a feeling that you would like to be a hostess. You've got such a beautiful smile. All of our guests would be more than happy to be greeted by you."

"Oh my gosh. Thank you so much. That is so sweet of you to say." I beamed at him.

"No worries. If you want—"

"We'll get all three desserts. Thank you." Oliver cut him off. "And the check. We have a comedy show to get to, and we don't want to be late."

Carlos looked over at Oliver, who was frowning at him, and he nodded. "Yes, sir. Of course." He turned back to me. "I'll give you my number, and you can call or text if you have any questions about the job."

"Will do. Thank you," I said, smiling at him. I looked over at Oliver. "That was so rude of you."

"What was rude? I was just being honest. You want to get to the comedy show on time, right?"

"Of course I do, but..." I looked at Foster. "Come on, Foster. Wasn't Oliver being rude?"

"I think Oliver was being very nice to you. You're lucky that he ordered you all three desserts. Frankly, I was gonna tell you not to get any dessert."

"Excuse me? You're rude."

"Well, I'm just saying, do you really need dessert after you had an appetizer, a main course, and two glasses of wine?"

"Oh my gosh, Foster. You're such a bore. Definitely don't date Alice. She would dump you in a heartbeat."

"Why would she dump me? She'd be lucky to date someone like me."

I started laughing then. "Oh my gosh. You're just as obnoxious as Oliver is. Both of you guys think that you're God's gift to women, but you're not."

Foster frowned then. "Why do you think Oliver thinks he's God's gift to women?"

"Because he does, the way he... Well..." I mumbled, not knowing what to say. I didn't want to play my hand. Oliver's eyes twinkled as he laughed at me.

"Yeah, Rosalie. Why am I obnoxious? I thought I was a sweet gentleman, you know? Protecting the virtue of all innocent women."

I glared at him for a couple of seconds. "Ha ha, very funny, Oliver."

"I'm glad I could make you laugh."

"Did you hear me laughing?" I said.
