“Only for a year. My brothers were relentless with their teasing. How many countries have you visited?”

“One. How many places do you travel to for work?”

“Imogen, you’ve only been to one? Does that mean Paris is your first?” I asked, surprised.

“Yes, answer the question.” She ordered.

“Most of the time three, sometimes more. Do you swim?”

“Yes. Do you know how to surf?” she asked.

“Never tried, I prefer frozen water sports,” I laughed. “That’s five each. You know, people really should do this on first dates. It gets so much out of the way,” I said as the waitress placed our food on the table. “Plus, I feel like a know so much about you already.”

“That food came out super fast, they must have put our orders in front of other orders,” Imogen joked. “I can get very used to this.”

“Yes, we know how much you love eating,” I joked back. “So, are you ready to shop for a wedding dress?”

Chapter 57

IMOGEN

Asher was waiting for me when I shuffled into the kitchen for food. I thought he’d be gone already, so I was caught off-guard when I saw him standing at the sink. I hadn’t even bothered to brush my hair or check my face for smeared mascara.

“Good morning, Sleeping Beauty. I was just about to leave you a note with this envelope,” He said, patting the seat next to him. “Let me go over a few things. Halima is at your beck and call for everything. There are three credit cards in your name in this envelope with no credit limit and a thousand in cash in case you need it.”

“I would have taken less,” I croaked in a sleepy voice.

“Pardon me?” he asked, totally surprised and maybe confused.

“And I thought I was the one that just woke up. It’s fromPretty Woman,” I said, getting some orange juice. “I finally got one you don’t know?”

“When was that in the movie? Oh, I know, it was when he left money and she said she would have taken less and he said he would have paid more,” he said, laughing. “One point for you. Now I’m going to have to work harder at this.”

He came around the island and hugged me. “I’m going to miss your smiling face, Imogen. You have fun with Poppy,” he said, still holding me close. “You can call or text me anytime too.”

He released me from the embrace, walked to the elevator and picked up his jacket hanging over a chair next to the elevator.

“We can go sightseeing when I get back, for more Valentine’s Week fun. Think of where you want to go,” he said, getting in the elevator. “We’ll have two days of Valentine’s Week left. We’ll need to make the most of it.”

“As long as you’ll be my Valentine, I’ll enjoy it,” I said as the doors closed on his smiling face.

Gunner came down the hall as I dialed Halima to have her send the chef up in an hour. Gunner had on his new black sand shoes and trackies. Now he really looked like James Bond. I took my orange juice and went to my room to get changed for our morning walk. Ten minutes later I was dressed, stretched, and ready to go.

“After breakfast we need to pick up Poppy from the airport,” I told Gunner riding the elevator down. “We need to think of something fun to do today.”

“How long will Miss Poppy be here with us?” Gunner asked casually. “I think she has been to Paris already, so she might have some ideas.”

“Deadset, Bond. I’ll wait and ask her.” I looped my arm under his elbow. “Here we go. Do you think there will be paparazzi out there? If there are any, I think they will lose interest when they don’t see Asher with us, just like earlier.”

“Most likely they’ll be there, Solitaire. You two getting engaged seems to be big news.” He put his arm around my shoulders and we put our heads down to exit to the sidewalk.

“Solitaire. Hey, Solitaire. Why did Asher leave the country without you?” a reporter yelled from behind the cameras.

Poppy arrivedon schedule and full of energy. I don’t think she took a breath the whole ride to the hotel. When she sat her big bag on the floor it began to move around, and I knew my little friend would be in there. I went from looking at her animated face to watching the bag. He didn’t come out and the bag stopped moving. Maybe later.

What was she just saying?

“Have you thought about the wedding yet?” Poppy asked, pulling a bridal book from her gigantic bag and disturbing Lionel’s nap. “Oh, don’t be such a grump and come out and say hello.”
