“Now is good, Sawyer. I’ll be right down,” Aunt Victoria said. “Sawyer, are you going to be alright with Jade being one of the girls?”

“I don’t know, to be honest. She doesn’t really like me, so why waste the spot that another girl could be in?” I asked. “I can’t believe she agreed. I’m still trying to figure that one out. She hates all this money, so why would she want to marry someone like me, someone she calls Fancy Yacht Boy?”

“She needed money immediately to get her father help, so I suggested it,” she said. “She fought it but, in the end, her father was more important to her.”

“She did this for him?” I asked. “Now I feel like a jerk.”

“I wouldn’t go that far. I am asking you to be yourself around her,” she said. “She gave up her career for her family and now her freedom. Who, in this family, has made that kind of sacrifice?”

“Well jeez, when you say it like that.” I sighed. “I’ll see you downstairs.”

Because I’d been on the phone with Aunt Victoria, the girls were on the patio before I got there. I put on my best smile.

“Did you all have a nice rest?” I asked, trying to get used to Jade sitting with the other girls. “Should we have the question and answer meeting?”

“Most of my questions were answered with the packet. I have my food sheet here. I didn’t know where to put it.” Rebecca waved the paper. “Other than that, I’m good.”

“Nadia, how about you?” I asked next. “Do you have your food sheet?”

“I left mine in the basket on the door. My crew member came by and said to leave it there for her. Do we know what dinner is yet? Remember, I don’t eat seafood, and other than that, what sports will we be playing?”

“We’re playing sports?” Rebecca asked. “I didn’t know we had to play sports.”

“It’s very casual here. If you don’t want to play, you don’t have to.” I tried to soothe that right away.

She’s beginning to be high maintenance. I shouldn’t be surprised, Asher picked her. She’d probably be great friends with Murphy.

Sarah and Tina shook their heads that they didn’t have any further questions. I looked to Jade. “How about you?”

“I’m very comfortable and ready for whatever.” She smiled. “Were you going to give us a tour of the house?”

All the girls nodded with excitement.

“Yes. Would you all like to do that now, or after dinner?”

“Sawyer, you should show them around while it’s still sunny out.” Aunt Victoria entered the patio. “Besides, it’ll be nice to eat and watch the sunset.”

“Great idea. I’ll let Josh know to serve dinner on the western balcony.” I smiled at my aunt for always knowing the right thing.

“Follow me.”

Chapter 79

Jade

“Why are you in the back of the group?” Victoria said from behind me. “Are you hiding?”

“Are you? Where did you come from?” I laughed. “I’m watching you.”

“You would get along great with my two daughters-in-law.” Victoria walked along next to me. “They’re spunky like you.”

“You realize you still didn’t answer where you came from.” I chuckled. “I’m going to explore this place on my own tomorrow while the others are napping.”

“What are you two talking about back there?” Sawyer called back to us. “Do you want to share with the class?”

“I’d like to share.” Tina raised her hand and laughed. “I am having a great time. Everyone has been really nice.”

“Thank you, Tina.” Sawyer pointed to a set of double doors in front of us. “This room will become your favorite place on the island. Welcome to the spa.”
