“You mentioned this last night, but I didn’t realize you really meant stay on the yacht, like not come back at night.” Tina shook her head. “That’s weird. Where will we sleep?”

“Tina, his yacht is the size of several houses. I’m sure you’ve seen it out at the dock.” I tried to help. “Sounds like we’ll be fancy yacht girls.”

I watched him trying his best not to laugh. He covered his mouth and coughed a few times.

“Sorry, I got a bug in my mouth.” He coughed again. “Any more questions? I’ve lost track of what I was saying.”

“Yes, what should we wear for this expedition?” I asked. Shorts? Swimsuit? Dress and heels?”

“Actually, when you get to your rooms, you’ll find today’s outfit on your beds.” Sawyer stood. “I’ll see you out on the beach in thirty minutes.”

“Last one there is a rotten egg.” I jumped up and ran away for effect.

Chapter 90

Sawyer

Iwas on the beach waiting with the guys when Jade came bounding down the steps, showing off her fatigues. She had her t-shirt tied in the back and her hair up in a ponytail. She looked perfect.

“This is cool. I always wanted some.” She smiled ear to ear and spun in circles. “Do we get dog tags?”

“The better question is do we have to wear this all day?” Tina growled. “It’s too hot to dress like this.”

“You’re gonna want to wear those when we get into the brush,” Gunner said. “Where are the other girls?”

“We’re here. Sorry, I had to make a call to check on something.” Sarah pulled her hair behind her in a ribbon. “These are fun. I like the boots, too.”

“Glad some of you like the outfits. Alright, let’s pick partners and get going.” Lou handed each of us a folded piece of paper. “Whoever’s name is on your paper is who you will partner up with today.”

“Will any of us be with Sawyer?” Nadia asked.

“No, I know the course. You will pair up with just you girls,” I explained. “I’ll be following and visiting each pair during the trek.”

“What if we get lost or hurt?” Tina whined. “I already got bit by something.”

I saw Jade roll her eyes and open her paper. “Tina, they already said they’ll be following us.”

“Also, those watches you’re wearing are tracking devices. If you need me, hit the red button on the side, but know that I’ll be able to track you, hear you talking, and watch your heart rates,” Lou added. “Smile girls, this will be fun.”

“I’m very ready. I have Jade.” Sarah cheered. “We’re gonna win.”

“There are no winners, it’s just about getting across the island in one piece,” Charlie grinned devilishly, “and before dark.”

“Tina and Nadia, looks like you two are partners.” Lou waved them over to him. “Me and Robert will be tracking you.”

“Gunner and Charlie will track Jade and Sarah.” I walked around, passing out maps. “These maps will be your guide across the island. It’s a total of four miles and you will figure out clues to find your path.”

“It’s four miles. We have to hike four miles in boots?” Tina complained. “I don’t walk four miles in the gym in sneakers.”

“You’ll be okay. I promise. You’re not walking the whole way.” I tried to soothe her irritation.

It seems I’m constantly soothing her irritation.

“Time to go. And keep in mind, there are multiple ways to get across the island,” Gunner added. “If you find a clue for a path that looks quicker, take it. Anything goes.”

“More than anything, girls, have fun. I wish I didn’t know the paths-- I’d be right along with you.” I clapped my hands together.

Gunner had made two entrances so the teams wouldn’t copy each other. At some point they would cross paths, unless one of the teams found the faster track. I watched them take off and felt disappointed I couldn’t play, too.
