Kane’s cheeks turned red. “You know he spouts off about who-knows-what all the time.”

“Kane.”

“It’s not a big deal—”

“What’s not a big deal?”

I tried to make sense of what Patrick said. Kane had never donated anything to Earth Warriors. He used to think it was a joke, didn’t he?

“I’ve made a few donations over the years.” He waved his hand as if it were nothing.

Patrick snorted. “Is that what you call millions?”

“There aren’t any gifts in your name . . .” Realization dawned. Of course he wouldn’t want me to know. I would’ve given his money right back. “You’re the anonymous donor.”

My chest filled with an emotion so overwhelming I didn’t think I could survive it.

“Saving six whales was better than none. But I hope we can work on the return on investment.”

I opened my mouth. Nothing came out. I closed it, stunned with his admission.

“You-you donated that money? But you hated me.”

He took my fingers in his. “I’ve never hated you, Barn. Except when I found out you kept Penelope a secret. But I’m over that.”

“Kane.”

He lifted a brow. “Was that a good Kane or a bad one? It’s getting kind of hard to tell.”

I choked out a laugh. “A good one.” I kissed his cheek. “I can’t believe you.”

“I have more money than I know what to do with.”

“And you don’t give any of it to other organizations,” Patrick supplied.

“Can you keep your mouth shut?” Kane snapped.

“Why?” I whispered.

He lifted a shoulder and lowered it. “You sacrifice so much to help others. And you don’t need my money, but I wanted to make sure you had enough to do whatever you wanted.”

I swallowed hard. “I’ve used that money for so much good.”

“I know.”

“You made the big donation a few weeks ago. So I could build a place for the homeless.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” His fingers tightened in mine.

“Thank you.”

That wasn’t enough. This amazing, generous man was too much. He didn’t even realize how big his heart was. And I couldn’t wait to spend the rest of my life discovering new pieces of him.

Patrick held up his finger. “I knew there was something I forgot. The park you want, the one the Fitzsimmons Group owns.”

I hadn’t forgotten about the park . . . I’d just been preoccupied.

“What about it?”
