“Do you see her?”

“Not yet, but it’s dark and I’m not sure how much she’s changed since high school.” Would I even be able to find her? Would she notice me? What if she wasn’t there tonight?

Our drinks arrived as a man came over the sound system.

“Okay, gentleman, I think we’re ready to get started. You are going to like the group of girls we have for you tonight. Open your wallets; I have a feeling we’re going to have quite the bidding wars happening.”

The crowd clapped and I watched various girls come out. Most looked terrified and then I felt bad for a few when I saw the looks on the men that bought them.

I’d felt pretty smug thinking I was successful while Charlotte was selling herself, but I was beginning to realize the mess that she was in.

I was looking around for the waitress for another drink when Simon tapped my hand. He nodded at the stage where a tall blonde walked out wearing a very skimpy dress. She turned her face towards where we were sitting and I almost gasped. I knew those eyes anywhere. Thereshewas.

CHARLOTTE

Smile. Don't forget to smile. You’ll get a higher price if you smile.

This was my mantra since I decided to auction myself off to the highest bidder here in Vegas a couple of weeks ago. I’d reached my breaking point and some guy on the strip must have had a sense of how desperate I was, telling me about this auction.

It wasn’t supposed to be for forever. It was supposed to be for three months at least. I started doing some research on the whole thing and when I started reading about the dark side of things, I stopped. It was either sell my body to a strange man and possibly die that way, or be killed by the dumbasses after me.

I was stuck here in Vegas. Like a dumbass, I had followed a guy here after high school. He got himself in trouble gambling and owed the wrong people a lot of money. I had to take up stripping at the club owned by these people but now I was stuck and he was in jail. This was not what I had envisioned for my life when I was voted most likely to succeed in high school.

I moved around the stage, listening to the guy with a microphone give a physical description of me. I tried not to look out in the crowd too much. It was taking every last nerve I had to stay out here and not run like hell.

Back in high school, I knew how to seduce men and get them to pay attention to me. It wasn’t hard to figure out what men wanted. Deep down, they’re all the same.

I tried to make money as a waitress, and while the tips were good, it wasn’t close to the amount I needed.. If you wanted to actually make a buck, you had to dance, specifically getting VIPs for lap dances. I had been on my way to a strip club to apply for a job when this guy found me. Here I could get the money up front and get these guys off of my back.

Sometimes I had to laugh. I’m sure Mom would be so proud knowing her daughter was selling her body on a stage to a bunch of shady men. She thought I was working as a showgirl until I earned enough money for school. She had no idea…

I tried not to show my nerves, putting my hand on my hip and standing while the man talked. When he told them the bidding was open, I finally scanned the crowd. I prayed someone nice would be the one to take me home.

It was then that I noticed a big guy sitting to the right of the stage with a huge scar on his face and he was studying me like a lion about to pounce on his prey. His hands were covered with rings and he had a small man sitting next to him. He leaned over to whisper something in his ear, nodding up at me. My heart sank. I couldn’t say for sure, but something told me this guy wasn’t good news.

He was the first to call out a bid of one million dollars. I almost fell over in my heels. That would pay back what was owed and even leave me with some left to get out of this town and start over. If I survived my time with him..

“Five million dollars.”

I stumbled on the stage and looked over to where the outrageous bid came from. I noticed the bluest eyes I had ever seen. The man was wearing an Armani suit and his hair was slicked back. He also had a man sitting next to him. Were all of these wealthy men helpless?

The guy by the stage pounded on the table and swore. The little guy he was with shook his head and I heard glass shatter as he threw his drink. Thank god he couldn’t outbid the Armani suit guy. Something told me that man had literally saved my life in more ways than one.

I flashed my smile in his direction and walked off the stage. It was like I could finally breathe, but my whole body was shaking at this point. They’d told us when all the girls had been bid on, they would settle with the buyers who would then meet us in an adjoining room. I took a bottle of water offered to me and sat down. I prayed I’d made the right decision in coming here and it was soon time to find out.

ELIJAH

She’s as beautiful as ever

That’s all I could think about while we were waiting for this damn auction to end. I felt bad for some of the women up there who were clearly bought by men that had evil intentions with them. It tempted me to buy them all and just let them go about their way after they got the money. It also made me wonder what Charlotte had gotten herself into and why she was a participant.

My heart started to race and almost felt like that high schooler again when we were finally able to walk back to where the girls were waiting for us. Simon had paid the money, and now she was mine for three months.

I didn’t need to buy companionship. Since I’d made my money, women were falling at my feet to be with me - beautiful women. I’d slept with plenty of them, but I could never forget about Charlotte, as much as I tried. I never cared about any of them like I did her in high school
