“Me too, Hallie. Me too.”

Epilogue

Sawyer

Twelve Months Later

“You ready?” Logan asks from behind me.

“Never been more ready,” I tell him as I turn around. “You’ve got the rings?”

He nods and pats his jacket pocket. “Let’s get you married, then.” He slaps me on the shoulder, and I follow him out of the hotel room toward the elevator.

As the elevator doors open into the lobby, Logan gasps next to me.

“What’s wrong?” I ask, my eyes flicking to where he’s staring.

“Dana,” he chokes out. “What’s… what’s she doing here?”

“You know Dana?” I ask, frowning when I notice how pale he’s gone.

“You know her?” he asks, his voice panicky. “Is she here for the wedding?”

“She works with Hallie.”

“Fuck,” he exclaims, his eyes never leaving her.

“Logan, what’s going on?”

He runs his hands through his hair and sighs. “That’s her, Sawyer. The girl I was telling you about.” My eyes flick between them both, and I’m speechless.

“Dana? Dana’s the girl you were in love with?” He nods, and I squeeze his shoulder. “Maybe this is your second chance.”

He shakes his head. “There’s no way she’s single. Look at her. She’s beautiful. Besides, she wasn’t interested then, she won’t be interested now.”

“You still love her, though?”

He shrugs. “Does it matter?”

“She’s single, man. Has been for a while. Apparently, her ex did a number on her.” Just then, she looks over. Her eyes meet mine and then flick to Logan. I watch as her eyes widen, and her hand comes up to cover her mouth.

“Looks like she remembers you.”

“Yeah, and I remember her breaking my heart. I’m not going there again. Come on. We’ve got a wedding to get you to.”

I don’t push it. There’s something between them, no doubt about it, but they need to figure it out themselves.

Walking away from Dana, we head outside.

It’s amazing to think how far Hallie and I have come in the last twelve months. My life’s changed beyond recognition, but I’ve never been happier, and I know Hallie feels the same. She moved in with me as soon as she was discharged from the hospital, and we haven’t spent a night apart since. She’s back working in the library, which I know she loves, and I’ve been with the Tybee Island Police Department for about six months. Marrying her today is something I’ve wanted for months, and I can’t wait to call her my wife.

As we walk to the beach where the ceremony is being held, I smile to myself as my mind wanders back to the evening when I’d proposed to Hallie three months ago.

“Where are we going?” Hallie asks excitedly as I lead her, blindfolded, from the car.

“I’m not going to blindfold you and then tell you where we’re going. You’ll have to wait,” I tell her with a chuckle. “It’ll be worth it, I promise.”

I slip my arm around her waist, pulling her against me as I walk her along the pier at Myrtle Beach. It’s just before sunset, and if I’ve timed things right, I’ll be where I need to be as the sun is setting. Hallie is almost bouncing with excitement, and I can’t wait to see her face when I remove the blindfold. I’m a little nervous as we near the end of the pier, and I pat the pocket of my jeans, double-checking the ring is still there.
