Someone else I had all the respect for. Chloe was one of those original Cord staffers who was still with Rinslet today. She’d been their head writer when the company started, and was responsible for the story line on most of the X games. She was their COO now.

I met her a few days ago, doing a podcast with her partner Jordan. She wasn’t just brilliant, she was also kind and totally fun.

“You’ve got such a fascinating past, Cole.” Graham’s voice was a blend of awe and envy. But not in a mean way.

“It’s not really. I simply avoid talking about the boring bits.”

The heat between them had cooled, and I wanted it back. Maybe I wasn’t so brilliant as I thought, if I couldn’t fan this existing spark.
