When Damon turned into the massive neighborhood, there was no question which way to go.

Blue and red lights bounced off homes and trees.

There were half a dozen police cruisers, two ambulances, and even a fire truck.

Busy night for the emergency workers of their small town.

Ariana prayed for Rita’s safety. She practically flew out of the car the moment Damon parked.

A crowd had gathered, even at this hour.

She pushed her way through until she reached the front.

Someone sat inside one of the ambulances, wrapped in a yellow blanket. She had Rita’s hair color and length.

“Rita!” Ariana called.

She turned in her direction.

It was her.

Ariana burst into tears, ran under police tape, and threw her arms around her friend.

Rita clung to her, and they both sobbed.

Someone told Ariana she needed to move behind the line.

She ignored him.

“Are you okay?” Ariana asked between gulps of air.

“I’ve been better, but I’m alive.”

“We’ve been looking for you nonstop. They arrested Mitch earlier tonight.”

“Good.” Rita pointed to a cop car. “And they got Boone too.”

Boone sat in the back of a cruiser, his face contorted.

“They better lock him up for life,” Ariana said.

“I’ll see to that.” Rita’s brows drew together and she stared at her husband.

Lia ran over, wrapping her arms around the both of them.

Ari’s tears ran afresh.

“I saw Boone,” Lia said. “Did he abduct you, or was it Mitch?”

“Mitch, but they were working together the whole time.”

“Is he not happy unless he’s destroying someone’s life?” Lia asked.

“No,” Rita said. “Did he do something else?”

“He threatened us,” Ari said.

“That isn’t all,” Lia said.
