Ari nodded. “We need to put together a vigil. I was already thinking about bringing that up with Lia.”

“Perfect. Focus on that and let us do our jobs.” Detective Rojas glanced back toward the park. “I need to get back. If you find anything else useful, contact me right away.” She headed across the street.

“What should we do?” Lia asked.

“Start planning a vigil,” Ariana said. “My dad already posted about Rita on his missing persons blog. It gets tons of hits, so we have that going for us. But a social media page would be good. Most of our friends would be more likely to see that than a blog.”

Damon put his arm around Ari. “We could mention that on our podcast.”

“We aren’t a true crime podcast.”

“No, but we’re close enough — we teach women how to protect themselves from getting abducted. Our listeners would be interested in this, in helping to find Rita.”

Ariana frowned. “We’ve spent so much time helping others avoid kidnappings, but we weren’t able to help our friend from getting abducted. Our listeners will think we’re frauds.”

“That’s imposter syndrome talking,” Charles said. “Rita left her shoe — that might’ve been on purpose. She might not have done that if not for all of your efforts to teach safety.”

“I should’ve done more,” Ari said.

“You couldn’t have. There was no way to guess that her husband was capable of something so horrific.”

“Then it’s settled,” Lia said. “You two put out a podcast, and Charles and I will set up the vigil.”

“What about the social media page?” Damon asked.

“That’s where we’ll organize the vigil,” Charles said. “I’ll set that up. You guys focus on the bonus podcast episode.”

“Let’s meet in two hours,” Ariana said. “We’ll see how much progress we’ve made.”

But would any of it do any good if it didn’t convince Boone to turn himself in?
