“A third?” she exclaimed.

“We can’t speak to the one on the other property.”

Lia gasped. “There are bodies buried on both sides of my house?”

“Have you and your husband found any indication there might be one under your lawn?” asked Rojas.

“Not that we’ve noticed. But we haven’t exactly been on the lookout.”

“We might need to have a look if these new ones are connected. Will you allow us on your property, or will we have to get a warrant?”

Lia straightened her back. “I’ll have to talk to my husband before answering that.”

“Please do. Given the location of your home, it’s a possibility. Perhaps a strong one.”

“Okay.”

Kamada looked at Ariana. “Is your husband around?”

“Still on his errands.”

That was what she told them earlier, right?

“We’ll be in touch.”

The two detectives left without another word, each going to their own unmarked car.

Lia slammed the door, and her face flushed. “I can’t believe there were bodies buried on either side of my house. Do you think there are some here?”

“Maybe we should start a support group,” Ariana said.

“Sorry. How are you dealing with the thought that you’ve been walking on bodies all this time?”

Ari stiffened. “We’ve been walking on the ground. There was no way we could’ve known what was buried underneath. It’s no different from spending time at a cemetery.”

“Do you do that often?” Lia snapped.

“Relax,” Rita said. “It isn’t that big of a deal.”

“Easy for you to say. There aren’t any bodies in your yard.”

“Who says there aren’t?” Rita asked, lifting a brow. “And there might not be any in yours either.”

Lia shuddered. “I’d be surprised if there isn’t at least one here. Why would someone bury them on both sides, but not here? I think I’m going to be sick.”

Ariana put her arm around Lia. “I know it’s unnerving, but it’ll all be okay.”

“How can it be okay?”

“A killer has been exposed. It’s only a matter of time before he gets caught.”

“I didn’t even think of it that way. Our neighborhood has another psychopath running around?”

“He might’ve moved away. Could be why the previous owners fled so quickly. Everyone says how sudden their move was.”

“I hope the police are talking to them.

“I have an idea,” Rita said. “Let’s go to the bar and grill. Getting out of here might help clear our minds and help us relax. The owner can get us half-off appetizers and spirits. Virgin for me, of course.”
