“I thought it would be a much better accessory, than that cast you had on your wrist.” I open the box revealing a white gold bracelet, sparkling with tiny diamonds and red crystals. “It matches your hair.”

“Chase,” I whisper, trying to hold back the tears welling up. “It’s too much.”

He places his soft lips on my shoulder like he can’t keep them off my skin. “Let me help you put it on.”

Gabby returns as Chase is putting the bracelet on my wrist, looking as flustered as I feel. “I think he’s a keeper, girl.”

We arrive at the vineyard, and I’m already sweating from the warm sticky weather today. I link my fingers with Chase’s, letting the soft, romantic music calm me as we’re lead to the banqueting house. The overhead lighting gives a purple hue to the room, making it very romantic. The setup has dozens of round tables seating twelve with a small stage at the front, and the place is already bustling with people.

“I feel like I’m at a wedding.” Gabby loops her arm through mine as we search for our place-cards and locate our table. We find it, and just my luck, we’re seated next to my co-anchor David and his wife. Thank God, his wife has more personality than he does.

“There you are. I didn’t think I’d ever see you again.”

“No worries, David. I’ll be back to work next week.” I force a smile at him before shaking his wife’s hand. I introduce Chase to them and few of my co-workers. And I have to laugh to myself, the way the females eye him up and down.

That’s right ladies, he’s all mine.

We take a seat as dinner is about to be served, and I’m suddenly famished when the waiter sets a fancy plate of salad in front of me.

“I’ll wait for the steak.” I snicker as Chase pushes his plate to the side.

Starving, I dig into mine, and when Chase puts his hand on my thigh and kisses me on the cheek, I’m suddenly hungry for something else.

He must read it on my face when he leans in and whispers in my ear. “Eat your salad, baby. You’ll need the energy later.”

The waiter removes the plates and Chase pulls out his phone. The corners of his mouth dip down as he reads the text message.

“Is everything okay?” I ask while he continues to text in a fury.

“I’m not trying to be rude, but it’s Jason. He has some information.”

My heart skips a beat. “Oh God. Do they know who he is?”

“I’m not sure. I’m going to step out and call him. I’ll be back in a few minutes. Promise you’ll stay with Gabby and keep your phone with you.” I breathe in his scent when he bends to kiss me on the cheek before leaving.

“I won’t let her out of my sight,” Gabby chimes in.

“I need to visit the ladies room,” I declare a few minutes later and Gabby seconds the idea. I mimic Gabby, stuffing my phone in my bra because nothing says classy like sticking an i-Phone in your cleavage.

“He likes you.” I blush as we search for the bathroom arm in arm, when Gabby whispers in my ear.

“I like him too.”

“Oh, fuck. Don’t look,” she says in a way to loud whisper, looking over my shoulder.

“What?” Of course, I can’t help turning my head to see what she’s looking at.

“I said don’t look.” She tugs at my arm. “Isn’t he the guy you dated a while back?” I casually turn around to see who she’s referring to.

“Isn’t that liar-liar-pants-on-fire?”

It’s Chuck or Charles. I can’t remember his damn name but it’s the guy I went out with a couple of times. We only had a few dates, but I broke it off when I found out he lied to me about his job.

“Oh God, it is. I guess he’s working here as a waiter now.”

“He’s staring right at you. Creepy.”
