The pressure in my chest intensifies. I’m going to throw up.

I notice the phone in my hand and type out a message.Where are you?

No response. He doesn’t even read it.

What should I do?

Tiero’s got Aiden.

No! I’m only panicking.

Aiden is too clever to get caught. He probably just can’t answer the phone right now. These are worst-case scenarios running amok in my mind.

Think engagement party, Ella! Who do I want there?

But it’s no use. How can I plan an engagement party when the groom is missing? There has to be another reason he’s not answering his phone. It might still be on silent and he’s not noticing it vibrate in his pocket. That’s a possibility, right?

I check my phone again. Still nothing. I try ringing him again, but like before, it rings out and goes to voicemail.

Something is wrong. I can feel it.

I’m shaking and my chest is tight. But that’s just anxiety. It’s not a sign of bad things happening. Any moment now, Aiden will knock on the door.

But what if he doesn’t? What am I going to do? Should I really just wait here? What if he doesn’t come back?

I pace faster, wringing my hands. Then I sit down on the couch, my legs bouncing of their own accord. Closing my eyes, I try to sense Aiden, but I’m too worked up and all I feel is turmoil. Is it his or mine?

What if Aiden needs my help? No, that’s a ridiculous notion. What could I possibly do that the big ex-special forces guy can’t? But he’s not invincible…

Oh god! What if he’s injured and lying unconscious somewhere? The thought of him hurt sends terror through me. I jump up. I know he told me to wait and not leave this room but I can’t stay here… not with him needing me. And he does; I’m sure of it!

But where do I even begin looking for him?

Reception… that’s where he was headed; it’s the best place to start my search.

I carefully look through the peephole to ensure that no one is out in the corridor. Then I open the door and run to the elevators, expecting one of Tiero’s henchmen to jump out of the shadows at any second and grab me.

When I reach the elevator, I hit the button impatiently, constantly looking over my shoulder down the corridor until the carriage finally arrives. I step inside and as it descends, a surge of nausea hits me out of the blue, and I cover my mouth with my hands, hoping I’m not going to throw up.

The closer I get to the bottom floor, the sicker I feel and the more my heart races. And then it happens… a familiar heat engulfs my body. It’s like I’m going up in flames, the intensity almost unbearable. It can only mean one thing.

Tiero and Aiden are together. My body is reacting to both of them.

Fuck.

Tiero is really here.

For a split second I’m elated, before fear of what is going to happen overwhelms me.

My body begins to tremble uncontrollably, my legs like jelly.

Get it together, Ella. Now is not the time to crumble.

When the elevator arrives, I carefully peek out, and in an instant, I know my worst nightmare is about to be unleashed.

Two Italian-looking guys are by the front entrance, a black SUV parked outside.

Shit. Shit. Shit.
