“What?!” I stop in my tracks, the shirt I just picked from a drawer falling from my hand.

“Why didn’t you tell me right away?”

“Because it might lead to yet another dead end.”

“Or it might not. Tell me.”

“A waitress in a café remembers her because she seemed so on edge and asked her to order a cab because she didn’t have a phone.”

“Have you checked with the taxi companies?”

“She never took a cab. A guy turned up and Ella ran.”

Shit, shit, shit.

It must have been one of Molinaro’s men. Did he catch her? But why isn’t Molinaro blackmailing me? She must have gotten away.

“Who was it? Have you checked the video footage?”

“Sergio is onto it. They’re retrieving it for him.”

My phone buzzes in my hand with another incoming call. Uberto’s name flashes across my screen. Good, my men sleep as little as I do.

“I gotta go. Meet you at the airport,” I tell Mateo and hang up to answer my hacker’s call. “What have you got for me?”

“Your hunch was right. Alexander Dougal’s new company is investigating Ella’s whereabouts. We had some success hacking into their system and found a string of messages. Rhia suspects the person she’s communicating with isn’t Ella. She has, through Dougal, tasked Freemont Security to find her friend. They know you took her but believe she fled. They’re determined to find her before you do.”

Shit. The last thing I need is Freemont involved in this. But then, it could still work to my advantage if they find her first.

Eventually, Ellawillcontact Rhia because those two are so close. And I will be prepared. The only reason Ella hasn’t tried to get in touch with her best friend yet is because she’s aware I’m monitoring her.

“We know where Ella is,” Uberto says, relief in his voice. I’ve been putting a lot of pressure on him.

I close my eyes and take a deep breath. For the first time in weeks, I have a glimmer of hope. It’s a welcome change from the despair that’s been swallowing me whole.

“Where?”

“Austria.”

Chapter One

Ella

Thewindisknockedout of my lungs, and my heart jackhammers in my chest. I squeeze my eyes shut as Tiero’s arms tighten around me.

Shit. Shit. Shit.

I cannot believe this is happening!

How did he find me?! How could he have possibly found me?!

Tears well up.

I’ve failed.

All of me is trembling, my pulse racing faster than the Ferrari he let me drive all those weeks ago.

He rolls us and is now on top of me, caging me with his body.
