“I forgot to thank you, Aidan. You didn’t have to come for me… I was rude.”

“Don’t worry about it,” I muttered, embarrassed. Of course, I’d come for her. She needed someone. I could have sent one of the maids… but I’dwantedto be the one to look after her. Fuck knows why. I wasn’t the caring type. It was different with her though.

I turned around for real this time while she dressed, and when she was done, I helped her into bed, setting the tray on her lap.

Underwear on… interesting.

“Eat slowly, and more importantly, drink.” I pushed the glass towards her, and she rolled her eyes. “I mean it, Cait. Or so help me God, I’ll pin you down and ma-”

She held up her hands to stop me. “Alright, alright. You’re so pushy.”

“Eat.”

“I will.”

I settled on the edge of the bed.

“You’re going to watch me?”

“Just to make sure. Don’t want you to choke or anything.”

“On soup?” she chuckled, reaching for the spoon and taking a mouthful. “It’s good,” she confirmed, and then set the spoon down again. I frowned.

“Drink something.” I pointed at the glass.

“Will you stop bossing me around?”

“No.” I shrugged, folding my arms. I meant what I said about pinning her down. I’d force feed her if I had to.

She picked up the glass and took a gulp, wrinkling her nose. “It hurts my stomach.”

“I know, take small sips.”

“Aidan-”

“Small. Sips.” I flashed her a warning look. She was testing my patience, and that had never been my strong suit.

With another eye roll, she sipped again, and then once more when I continued to glare. I nodded my satisfaction.

“More soup.”

“Can’t I at least have some bread or something? It’s a lot of liquid.”

“Well if you think that hurts your stomach, what do you think bread is going to do to you?”

“I don’t know when you became a doctor, but-”

“Stop arguing with me, Cait! Just eat.” I snatched the spoon, and scooped up a mouthful, slipping it between her lips before she had a chance to stop me.

“Aidan!” She yelled, pushing me away, spilling soup everywhere. “What the hell are you doing?”

Now it was running all down her chin. And I couldn’t help but laugh.

“Now look what you did!” she squealed, snagging the napkin to wipe her chin before it dribbled onto her pajamas. She patted at it daintily, still trying to maintain some decorum.

I didn’t think I’d ever seen anything so funny… or perhaps we’d finally snapped under the pressure of all the stress.

“Stop laughing,” she sulked as I chuckled, but after a moment, she cracked a smile too. “It’s not funny.”
