"Addison, I need to you pay close attention to me," he says as I feel him sit down next to me.

When I look up, my eyes immediately fall to the open ring box in his lap. It's empty. Slowly raising my eyes to meet his, I catch sight of the missing piece of jewelry in his left hand.

"Everyone has a past. You can let it define you, or you can embrace it, learn from it, and grow. For us, our pasts are filled with grief. We've taken that grief and become the people we are today. We're far from perfect, and still healing, but from what I can tell, we both want the same things out of life. A future that is filled with joy and happiness that will one day overshadow all the pain we've experienced.

"When I picture my future, you're there by my side. We're in this house, there's no more construction, and we're laughing. I hope when you imagine your future, I'm part of it. That we're happy together and still madly in love."

A single tear trails down my cheek as Adam reaches for my left hand and gently pulls it toward him, positioning the ring at my fingertip. I can feel the cold metal against my skin and the urge to look down it strong, but I can't seem to pull my eyes from his.

"Addison Marie Larken, although this proposal didn't go anywhere close to the way I planned it, as I'm sure our life probably won't, will you still do me the honor of becoming my wife? Will you promise to love me for eternity, to become the mother of my children, and grow old with me?"

The mother of my children. Plural.

We haven't talked about it yet, the fact that I'm pregnant. I should probably mention it so he knows exactly how soon we'll be adding to our union.

"Adam, before I answer you, there's something else you need to know."

"More?" he asks, clearly shocked.

Clearing my throat, I swallow the lump that's formed and push myself forward. The truth will set me free. It may change things, but it will set me free.

"I'm pregnant," I blurt out before I lose my nerve.

Nothing.

Counting to ten in my head, I wait for his expression to change. Shock. Surprise. Elation. Anything. It doesn't.

"Does that mean you don't want to marry me?" he asks, wrinkling his brow.

"Of course I want to marry you. I just thought you deserved to know what you're getting yourself into."

Adam slips the ring on my finger at that moment, leans forward, and kisses me gently on the lips. "I'll take that as a yes, but I'd prefer if you said it."

"Yes, Adam. I'll marry you," I say between peppered kisses, my tears flowing freely now.

"Thank fuck. I was afraid you'd say no because of the baby."

Pushing him away, I growl. "You knew?"

"Not until you spit out your wine. It took me a minute to put it all together, though. The wine. Your story. Chloe knowing something I didn't."

"You're not upset?"

"Addison, I couldn't be more excited. You're going to be my wife and we're going to start a family. This is a new beginning for both of us. Why would I be upset?"

"It's not like we planned this," I retort, a note of sarcasm in my voice.

"Some of the best things in life aren't planned. Like meeting you. Falling in love. And we can add baby number one to the list as well."

"Number one?"

"Yes, Addy. Number one. If you'll let me, I'd like to have a few more."

"Exactly how many is a few?" I inquire, my nausea returning at the mention of multiple little Adam's running around.

"Let's start with one and go from there," he replies, reaching for my phone sitting on the table and handing it to me. "Now, call Chloe and put her out of her misery. She's probably pacing the living room wondering if you said yes or not."

Guaranteed she is.
