I am upset, but I don't know exactly why.

"Nothing happened. Nothing at all."

"But you guys went behind the tent. Are you seriously telling me he didn't even kiss you?"

She was watching which means other people probably saw us as well. Maybe even Max. What if one of the other brothers saw us? Or one of Max's friends?

I'm falling down the rabbit hole faster and faster when Lo and Kendall come bouncing over to the picnic table Sierra and I scored. Their shared looks of excitement has me smiling even before they open their mouths.

"There you are!" This from Lo who acts like she's been looking for me for hours. "It's time to go."

"Where are we going?"

Sierra and I share a curious look. It’s hours until the game starts.

"The Kappa tent. We need your help with the guys’ outfits."

"What outfits?"

K and Lo glance at each other, their smiles growing mischievously.

"The pledges are dressing up for the game. That's all I'm going to say. Now, let's go."

"I'll be back," I call over my shoulder to Sierra as Lo drags me away, her grip on my wrist a lot stronger than necessary. Sierra wiggles her fingers at me with a smile on her face.

"Okay, you and Lex will take that area. Kendall and I will take this one." Lo explains what we're expected to do, finishing just as the pledges walk into the tent.

When I spot Leo, I weave my way over to the corner Lo assigned me. Alexis joins me a few seconds later, taking the seat opposite me at the table. Sorting through the brushes and color palettes on the table, I can't help but laugh when a visual of Leo, in a cheerleading uniform and makeup pops in my head.

"This is insane."

"Yes, but fun."

"What's the point?"

It isn’t Alexis who answers me, though.

"Because we want to win the spirit award. And if you hadn't brushed me off earlier, I wouldn't have had to send Lo looking for you for help. I was planning on asking you myself."

Max stands next to the table, staring down at me, making me feel like an ass for being a jerk to him earlier.

"I'm sorry. It's been a rough week. I didn't mean to take it out on you."

"School?"

No.

"Yeah."

"Let me know if I can help." Max places his hand on my shoulder and gives it a light squeeze as a small group of pledges begin to shuffle around us. "Thanks for helping, Evie. I appreciate it."

Putting makeup on a guy is harder than it looks. Their cheekbones are different. They flinch when you get close to their eyes. None of the colors compliment their complexions. But still, when we're done, they don't look half bad. If this wins the Kappa's the spirit award, I'm proud of my contribution.

Until I see Leo.

Who's already changed into his cheerleading uniform.

How is it possible for him to look that sexy yet ridiculous at the same time?
