"You not coming?" Kane asks Max as he's walking away.

"Not in the mood," is all he says as he storms off, directly past the Zetas who are hugging each other and celebrating. Cleo shouts after him, but he ignores her.

"Tonight is going to suck, isn't it?" Kane looks at me and nods before slapping me on the shoulder, falling to the back of the line as we head back to the tent to clean up.

At least we won't have to deal with Max until later tonight. He can be pissy all by himself until the game is over. I fully plan to enjoy the reprieve from him.

"I want a hot dog.Anyone else want anything?" I ask as I make my way down our row to the stairs of the bleachers.

"Another one?" Craig calls. "You're not gonna fit in that cheer uniform if you keep eating like crap."

The guys laugh when I flip him off before jogging to the bottom of the steps and heading toward the concession stand. Again. For the third time. Yes, I'm still hungry. No, I don't feel bad about it. How filling really is a hot dog anyway? I've only had three so far. I can put away one or two more and maybe a bag of popcorn. That should satisfy me.

Or she can satisfy every craving I have. For food. For life. For her lips.

Evie's walking toward me, her arm linked with her roommate’s. Her head is thrown back, and the sweet sound of her laughter is floating on the breeze. The urge to capture her laugh with my lips is overwhelming the closer I get to her. When I step in their path and come to a stop, Sierra spots me and releases Evie, continuing past me.

"Hey." One word from those lips and I'm ready to cave. To pull her in my arms and give her everything she wants. Her brother be damned.

"Hi."

We stand there in awkward silence, staring at each other, while people pass us on either side.

"You guys did good today," she finally says. "Second place. Congrats."

"You were there?"

"I may have watched your performance. Curiosity got the best of me." She averts her eyes, the cobalt blues I could stare into for hours falling to her hands clenched in front of her.

"Curious about anything else?" I ask, taking a step toward her and closing the distance. She doesn't reply. Doesn't move a muscle. So I take another step. Then another until I'm within reach of her, taking her hands in mine.

When she finally lifts her chin and makes eye contact, I see the turmoil swirling inside her.

"Are you?" she asks.

"So many things."

"Like..."

"For starters, your lips." My eyes flick to the soft pink perfection I dream about tasting.

"What about them?"

"I want to taste them. To know what it feels like to kiss you."

"You've kissed me places no man ever has."

My dick twitches inside my jeans, and I'm suddenly very thankful I'm not wearing that stupid cheer skirt anymore. It wouldn't be able to hide my attraction to her.

"Is that right?" I joke, releasing her hands, skimming my fingers up her arm and down again, finally taking her hips and gripping them tightly. "Anywhere else no man has ever kissed? I'd be happy to be your first."

My words cause her to stiffen in my arms briefly before backing away completely. Two steps. Then three. On the fourth she pivots, walking away from me. Sierra shimmies past me a moment later, rushing after Evie. I watch them interact when Sierra catches up with her, their conversation kept in hushed tones, before they eventually head toward the exit.

What did I say?

How do I keep screwing this up?

I plan to find out the next time I see her. And maybe take things a little slower. I keep scaring her away. It's like we're playing a game of cat and mouse. Only, she keeps escaping my traps.
