I've officially crossedover to stalker status.

Since Evie left last night, with our relationship hanging in the balance, I've sent her no less than a dozen texts. Left her a handful of voicemails. Walked to her dorm three times, stood outside her door twice, and almost knocked once.

She needs time, but I need her.

To know what she's thinking. To see that she believes me. To hear her voice and feel her skin.

But it's not about what I need right now. That's why I walked away. Even when I heard her crying. I was the reason for her tears, which meant I couldn't stop them. If I knocked on her door, I'd only make the situation worse.

Which is the reason for the texts and voicemails.

It's also the reason I walked through the parking lot to see if her car was still there this morning before I left for the frat house. And the reason my eyes have been glued to the entrance to the kitchen all morning as I've helped Julian prepare dinner.

"She'll be here," he mumbles as he walks past me.

Max and Colt have been hovering around the kitchen, watching, taste-testing, but not lifting a finger or offering to help, all morning. Kane has been parked on a stool at the counter, sunglasses in place, tapping the keys of his laptop since before I walked in. And about ten minutes ago, Micah and Declan walked in, plopping down on the couch, turning on football.

"What's up with the sunglasses?" Kane stops typing, glances up at me for a brief moment and smirks, before going back to whatever he's doing without answering my question.

"He thinks he's cool," Colt says, sliding up to the counter and taking the seat next to him.

"That's not it, and you know it."

"Then tell the poor kid why you wear those damn things all day, every day."

"It's none of his damn business why I wear them. None of yours either."

"But I already know, so it is my business."

"Only because I was drunk off my ass when you asked."

The two of them continue bantering back and forth, discussing the merit of Kane wearing sunglasses, Colt's hair being too long, the hot chicks they had a double date with last week, before finally moving away to watch the game with Declan, Micah, and Max, who joined them a few minutes ago but has kept his eyes trained on me the entire time.

Yet to say a word to me today.

Though, I can feel it coming.

He's studying me, looking for answers.

He knows I'm hiding something, and he knows what, but he refuses to ask.

Is he giving me a chance to come clean? To admit my truth?

That was the plan today. For us to stop hiding and face the consequences.

Max is only going to get that if she shows up. Which, after the way she left last night, with a look of uncertainty on her face, I'm not sure she's going to.

I wouldn't blame her. I know exactly how it looked. I gave her a reason to doubt me. To doubt us.

Why go through with telling Max if she isn't sure she wants to be with me anymore?

As the thought crosses my mind, I hear the front door slam. The click of heels on the hardwoods. The tension in my neck strains as I wait for our new arrival to show themselves.

And when they do, my heart stops in my chest.

Piper and Alexis, arms linked, round the corner, both of them smiling from ear to ear. Behind them are Lo and Finn. They're holding hands, whispering to each other.
