“Your flowers?” I shook my head. “We were passing through. We don’t want any flowers. We were after the dragon.”

“Ya, that pesky dragon,” the one on the right said. He had a thick golden hoop in the tip of his long ear. “Were ye tryin' to capture the dragon, or kill it?”

“Capture him,” Raika said at the same time I said, “Kill him.”

The goblins exchanged a wary glance.

“The dragon has been bad for us,” the third goblin said. He had a nasty scar across one of his eyes. Instead of brown, this eye was white. “It keeps movin' inside the mountain and it doesn’t care about our flowers.”

“Look,” I started. I wanted to stand up, but in this tiny cell, I could barely kneel. “Release us. We’ll find our friends and we’ll take care of the dragon. We’ll either capture or kill him, but he won’t be a problem to you anymore.”

The goblins didn’t look happy with that idea.

“We mean no harm to you or your flowers,” Raika added. “We got lost inside the tunnels, but all we want is the dragon.”

“Hm.” The tall one scratched his chin. “We’ll think about it.”

They walked out of the prison and closed the door with a loud thud.

“We could take them,” I said to Raika.

“The three of them, yes, but we don’t know how many are out there.” She frowned. “Besides, I don’t want to hurt anyone unnecessarily.”

Her heart was always the purest and the kindest, and I admired that. It was one of the reasons I loved her so much.

“All right, we’ll wait and see what they decide,” I told her. “But we also can’t wait forever. And if they decide they won’t let us go …”

She let out a sigh. “Then we’ll talk about another plan.”

I rested my back on the wooden posts and stared at her.

She averted her eyes, a slight red color tinting her cheeks.

I didn’t know if I should laugh or shout. This situation, it was all crazy and twisted. About a week ago, if anyone told me I would find my mate alive, chase down a dragon, and be held captive by a group of goblins, I would say they were insane.

But here we were.

One hour passed. The golden hoop goblin returned with a female goblin and brought us some food. A weird looking porridge, burnt bread, and water. We thanked them and ate only the bread and drank the water.

Then another hour passed.

Then another.

Light started slowly filtering through the windows.

I groaned, restless. I needed to stretch my legs, to stand tall, to do something. Staying in this cell, pretending it could hold me and not talking to Raika, was killing me right now.

“Those pictures,” she finally said, her voice soft. She lifted her eyes to meet mine. “Those aren’t photoshopped, are they?”

My brows curled down. “You were told I wanted you dead. If I did, why would I waste my time photoshopping all of those?”

She pressed her fingertips to her temples. “It doesn’t make sense.”

“Of course it does. Dot spelled you. She made you forget your entire past, your entire life, so they could manipulate you.” The question was why? What did Paimon want with Raika? Why had he faked her death and brought her to his side? Paimon being a doting father and wanting his beloved daughter with him when he conquered the underworld? I didn’t buy it.

“That’s ridiculous.”

“As is melyingabout you being my mate.” This subject was riling me up.
