I sat up straighter and stared as she looked me over with a distinct curiosity.

“What is the job?” I couldn’t stand the ominous curiosity running through my veins any longer.

“Prince Noah will feed on you,” Ms. Trapsbury said. “Your blood. And you will provide it to him whenever he needs access to it. For his survival.”

My body swayed and I reached out quickly, gripping the plush fabric next to me in a futile attempt to steady myself. My stomach flipped over itself and I swallowed an acidic taste rising in my throat.

“My…my.” I clenched my jaw and got hold of myself enough to ask, “My blood?” My entire body quivered so much that my teeth chattered.

Ms. Trapsbury frowned and rose from her seated position, placing a hand on my shoulder.

I glanced back at her. “So you’re telling me Prince Noah needs blood? My blood?” I rose, facing her again. “Why? Is he a vampire? Are you telling me vampires are real?”

Ms. Traspbury pursed her lips and made a tsking noise. “What are you going on about child? No. Prince Noah, a vampire?” She huffed and brought up both her hands, sweeping them over her head in annoyance.

Her eyes analyzed the room once more. She fluffed the pillows on the cushions we had just risen from and placed her hands on her hips. She nodded, seemingly satisfied with her duty and went to the door.

“Vampires are vile creatures and our royal family is most certainly not vampires. Honestly. Prince Noah is a fae.” She pulled open the door and turned, standing in the frame, looking toward me with an air of finality.

The air pulled itself from my lungs and I could feel the crease between my brows deepen to a point that I brought my hand to my head. I wobbled.

This woman was speaking in riddles. Speaking crazy.

Ms. Trapsbury lifted her chin slightly. If she was aware of my downward spiral toward insanity, she didn’t show it.

“I suggest you get some rest now, dear. You’re not in the human world anymore, you’re in Unseelie Lands now.”
