“I definitely do not think you having your dick out in the Egyptian wing is funny,” I assured him, but the fact I was almost crying with the effort of not laughing seriously undermined the statement.

“I’m not sure I believe you.”

“Please, don’t tickle me.”

His hands trailed up from my calves and over my knees. The amusement of the situation shifted to something else entirely as I realized the edge of my skirt had ridden up high, leaving most of my wool wrapped legs exposed. I swallowed hard as heat engulfed me, watching Mack as he watched the slow progress of his hand, up, up, up.

One knee landed between mine and his words swarmed in my head:there are so many other things we can do.

He was moving so slow I wanted to scream and squirm, but I didn’t. I held still, pulse thundering in my ears and breathing shallow as the light drag of his fingertips on my tights sent shiver after shiver across my skin. If it was possible to die of anticipation, then this was it for me.

I was done for.

MACK

What the fuckwas I doing?

I knew that moving things inside was going to be trouble—necessary, given the state of the weather when I woke up, but trouble. And now here I was with my hand high on Chase’s thigh not fifteen minutes into our date. This would not have happened if we were on the fucking roof. Or maybe it would have.

It probably would have.

But it wasn’t going any further just yet.

Even so, I couldn’t stop staring at my hand. It was halfway between her knee and hip, my fingers splayed, skin stark against the black wool of her tights. I had all but memorized the lines of Chase’s legs over the years, but having them under my hand was something else altogether. I could feel the muscle shift, the slight tremble as she fought to keep still.

“And why tell me now?” It was little more than a shaky whisper and it was comforting to know that she was as affected by everything between us as I was. My eyes jumped up to hers, dark and hungry, but with the light of curiosity. Of course she was curious. I’d dropped a goddamn bomb. It probably wasn’t the best idea, to talk about an ex while on a date. The look on Chase’s face, though, both horrified and thrilled all at once, set my mind at ease. She might try to deny it, but Chase loved some gossip.

My attention dropped back to my hand, still on her thigh. I couldn’t quite believe I was here with her and part of me was cursing my decision to bring up Tatiana, but I did have a point.

I dropped down beside her, my hand migrating up over the curve of her hip. “Well, first of all, I didn’t want you to think I would get intentionally naked in the Natural History Museum.” She laughed. “And I guess it was a secret for a secret?” At her look of confusion, I added, “I thought I knew pretty much everything there was to know about you … and yet you surprised me with your stories of being a childhood skating prodigy.”

Another laugh, this one large enough to have her head tipping back, exposing the long elegant line of her throat.

“Childhood prodigy might be a stretch, but I see your point. And your equivalent is admitting that it was not, in fact, Tatiana Marcus who popped your cherry?”

It was my turn to laugh. That had been another part of the reason I’d been happy to go along with Tat’s messed up plan.

“Cassie DeMarco?”

“What?”

“Was it Cassie DeMarco?” she clarified, and I was suddenly not so sure about this topic of conversation.

“It was not,” I said, my fingers running a lazy track across Chase’s waist as she scooted ever so slightly closer.

“Wait,” she breathed. “There was someone before Tatiana? How old were you? Like fourteen?”

“Thirteen, actually.”

“No!” She sat upright, eyes and mouth wide in shock. “You’re kidding.Thirteen!?Who was it?”

My hand had fallen into the cushions beside her and I drew circles in the fake fur.

“Mack,” she said when I didn’t answer immediately. “Who was it? You weren’t—” She swallowed. “It wasn’t—”

“It was very much consensual, if that’s where your mind is going.”
