He’s so much more.

Both of us have shut ourselves off from getting close to another person, but I think we’re both starting to let our guards down, ready to let the other in. At least I am.

Anything he wants from me, he can have.

It’s all his.

“What’re you thinking right now?” he asks, tucking a stray lock of hair behind my ear.

Smiling, I kiss his chest. And when I go to pull away, he tucks me back against him.

“I see it in your eyes. What’s going on in that pretty little head of yours?”

“Nothing for you to worry about, Fonzie.”

“I’m not worried, baby,” he tells me, running his finger from my temple to my jaw, and swiping it across my lower lip. “I like the look. I’m just curious as to what brought it on.”

“You,” I whisper, and he flashes me his megawatt smile.

“Good to know, gorgeous.” Kissing me quick, he sits us up.

Sliding out of bed, I go over to my bag and then head to the bathroom to change into jeans and one of my favorite sweaters. It’s a cropped mustard yellow chunky knit one that makes my eyes look a little more like honey than chocolate.

When I emerge, Alex is putting a t-shirt on, and I bite back a moan at the site of his muscles flexing with his movements.

Seeing me, his heated gaze takes me in from head to toe.

“Gorgeous as always,” he says, pulling me in for a kiss.

“You too, Fonz,” I say, breathless, and he gives me another smile.

He’s going to kill me with those.

“Put your shoes on and we’ll go.”

“Where?”

“Since I took tonight off, I thought we’d go downstairs,” he says, watching to see how I’ll react.

He wants to take me to dinner downstairs? At The Rusty Anchor? Where everyone in town will see?

“Are you saying you want everyone to know?” I ask, a wistful smile ghosting my lips.

Alex’s hand slips under my sweater to rest on my waist, his touch on my bare skin a welcome comfort.

“Yeah, that’s what’s I’m saying. Think you can handle that?”

“Of course,” I tell him, my voice ringing true. “I have to stake my claim on you. The women around here need to know you’re not available for any more casual nights together.”

Laughing, the gold in his eyes shine with pride. “And all the men need to know you’re mine,” he says, sliding his hand down to cup my ass – squeezing it.

“Yes,” I sigh, wrapping my arms around his neck. Kissing me hard, I thread my fingers through his hair, and moan into him.

Pulling back, he kisses my cheek and guides me towards the door. “We need to go before I never let you leave my bed.”

“I wouldn’t mind,” I tell him, smiling up at him with what I’m sure is a dumb, dreamy look in my eyes.

“You’re going to be my downfall, gorgeous.”
