“I didn’t even realize you got up.”

“I know. Now drink. Then we’ll talk.”

“There’s nothing to talk about.”

“Shh, just drink, bitch.”

Finishing my next glass in a few gulps, I push the empty glass away from me and sigh, loving the warmth I feel spreading through my veins already.

“What’s up?” Ash asks.

“Nothing. Guys, seriously, I’m fine. Where’s Courtney and Dara?”

“They’re coming in a little bit. Don’t change the subject.”

Releasing a rush of air, I look up to the ceiling, and then back and forth between the two of them. “I’m just at a weird point in my life right now, and I’m trying to deal and sort things out. In my own way.”

“But you’re here with us now,” Ally assures me. “You don’t have to do everything alone anymore.”

“Thanks. But–”

“Hey!” Courtney yells, coming up to our table with Dara. “You guys started without us? How many drinks in are you?”

“Sorry, we’re trying to get Mel to tell us what’s going on with her and find a way to get her and Alex together.”

“WHAT?!”

“Oh, Alex is sexy.” Dara smiles, taking the empty seat next to Ally.

I shoot her a look, and her eyes widen.

“Sorry, I mean he’s ugly?”

“Oh, don’t let Mely scare you.” Ally waves her hair in the air. “She’s just in a mood.”

“I’m not,” I fire back, then regain my composure. “Sorry, Dara. Welcome to our group. They pester you, get you drunk, and make you tell them everything.”

“It’s okay, he’s not really my type anyway,” she says, running her finger through a deep scratch in the table. Okay, well, if sexy isn’t her type, then what is?

Yeah, I need some space.

Standing up quickly, I announce, “I’ll be back.”

Walking around the bar to the bathrooms, I give myself a few minutes to myself to gather my wits again.

Leaning against the sink, I close my eyes and take in a few deep breaths.

I hear the door open behind me, but I keep my eyes closed, trying to focus.

“Hey,” a low, deep voice says behind me, startling me.

My eyes pop open and meet a pair of green ones in the mirror over my shoulder.

“What’re you doing in here? Can you not read a door?”

“I can.”

“Okay? So, what do you want?”
