“No. No plans.” I take a sip of coffee and love the bold flavors of drinking it black. But something is different about his. “You make good coffee.”

“I have a secret to my recipe.”

“And I guess you won’t be telling me?”

“Nope. I have to keep you needing me in the morning, gorgeous.”

“Are you inviting yourself over?”

“Yeah, I thought that was obvious.” He smiles, stretching his legs out while he drinks his coffee. “So, about today. I think we should do something. Go somewhere.”

“Do you have anywhere in mind?”

“Yeah, but it’s a surprise.”

“Hmm, okay.” Smiling to myself, I look back out at the water.

I hope his surprise involves riding behind him on his Harley with my body wrapped around his. Because after last night, I think I’ll enjoy it even more.

We sit for a while longer outside, and the sun finally starts to warm me up. “I’m going to go take a shower and get ready,” I tell him.

“Need help?” He smirks.

“No, Fonz. I can handle it myself.” I smile, heading back inside.

After my shower, I hurry back down the hall to my room without running into Alex. I know if he catches me dripping wet in a towel, he may not take me to my surprise, and I desperately want to know what he has in mind.

I go with leggings, a loose white tee, jean jacket, and knee-high brown boots for my outfit today. I think simple and comfortable is a safe bet because I have no idea what we’re doing and want to be ready for anything.

Applying a light layer of makeup, I go back to the bathroom to blow-dry my hair, and then weave it into a loose side braid, leaving a few short pieces out to frame my face.

Smiling at myself in the mirror, I notice my eyes and skin aren’t so dull and tired looking anymore. I look like my old self – bright, and full of life.

It’s this place, this town, and a lot of the man waiting for me.

A shiver runs through me at the memory of last night. His eyes kissed my skin, and then his hands followed suit.

Stepping out onto the back porch, I find Alex with his legs stretched out in front of him, his arms crossed behind his head, and his eyes closed.

“Relaxed?” I ask, and he smiles, keeping his eyes closed.

“I am. Are you ready?”

“Yup. Are you going to tell me where we’re going?”

“Nope.” Standing, he eyes me up and down and his smile widens. “Let’s go, gorgeous.” He motions for me to head back inside, and I lead the way through the house and out the front door, making sure to grab my small crossbody purse on the way.

Alex heads straight for his bike, and I enjoy the show of him swinging his leg over and settling into the seat. I don’t know why I find that simple motion so sexy, but it is.

“You’re not still scared, are you?” He smirks, holding a helmet out for me. I know he doesn’t wear one, so he must have brought it with him last night in anticipation that perhaps I’d be willing to ride again. And while I could take that as cocky or an insult that forgiving him was a foregone conclusion, I’m choosing to see it as sweet and thoughtful. He knew I wouldn’t ride with him without a helmet.

“No,” I tell him, taking the helmet from him and securing it on my head.

Placing a tentative hand on his shoulder, I lift myself up and swing my leg over. And the moment I settle against him, I feel it – a sense of completion, of feeling just right.

Reaching back, Alex pulls my arms around him and runs his fingers over my interlocked hands. I smile into his back and he starts his bike, the vibrations jolting through me straight away.

I press myself a little closer, and like last time, he rubs my thigh – comforting me, letting me know he’s going to keep me safe.
