My eyes eat him up from head to toe, lingering a little longer on the bulge in his boxers.

“Gorgeous, if you keep looking at me like that, then I won’t be able to walk out of here. I know you’re naked under there and I know what you feel like in my hands now.”

Rubbing his jaw, the sound of his rough stubble against his palm sends little jolts of need through me.

“Mel,” he warns.

“Sorry,” I say, biting my lip.

“You know that drives me crazy, too.”

Laughing lightly, I cover my eyes with my hand. “How’s that? Now you can go make me coffee.”

“Better.” He laughs, and I hear him walk away, but not before I sneak a peek at his sexy ass between my fingers.

This, right now, is surreal.

I’ve slept next to Alex twice now, and all we did was sleep. I hope it’s because he thinks I really am different, but there’s still a part of me that’s unsure and expects him to cast me away once I give in to him.

It’s probably inevitable.

But for now, I’m going to enjoy this.

Sliding out of bed, I throw on sweatpants and a t-shirt, and meet Alex in the kitchen. I find him leaning against the counter lazily, a slow smile spreading across his face when he sees me.

“Are you going to stay like that?”

“What? You mean like this?” he asks, motioning down his torso.

“Yes. Like that.”

“Maybe. I like your eyes on me, gorgeous.” He smirks.

“Are you making fun of me?”

“Never,” he says. “I’m serious.”

Grabbing a mug, I pour myself some coffee and head for the back door. “You may get a little cold if you come out here like that.”

“Alright, fine. I’ll meet you in a minute.” He smiles.

The cool morning air chills me, but I don’t mind. I just hold my mug close to my lips and let the steam warm my face. I sit in the wicker chair closest to the door and tuck my legs up, circling my knees with my arms.

It’s beautiful out this morning. The sun has already risen, but it’s still hanging low over the water, breaking through the white puffy clouds to shine straight towards me.

“I like your view better,” Alex says, taking a seat in the wicker chair next to me. I’m glad he’s fully clothed again. I can’t think straight when all of his perfect skin and muscles are just right there in front of me. “I just have a gravel lot.”

“You have more than that. Did you not notice how the sun shined through the pine trees? It was beautiful. Hazy, misty, almost otherworldly.”

“Yeah, I noticed,” he says. “No one else ever has, though.”

Looking over at him, our eyes meet, and I smile softly – a brief moment between us.

I see him for more than he is. For more than where he lives.

Maybe he’s been looked down on for living above a bar and bedding a different woman every night, and maybe his view is mostly of a gravel parking lot, but I saw more. I saw beauty, and I saw he takes care of his apartment. He doesn’t treat it like a dump or a bachelor pad filth cauldron like I may have thought he would. I found it cozy.

“Do you have plans today?” he asks.
