His hot kisses trail up my throat, and he takes my bottom lip between his teeth.

I run my hands up through his hair and kiss him with all the energy I have left.

“Alex,” I whisper against his lips.

“I know, baby.”

I don’t know why I feel like I could cry right now, but I have so many emotions swirling around in me that it’s overwhelming.

“Open those eyes for me, gorgeous. I need to see them.”

Peeling my lids open, I hope he can’t see the glassy unshed tears in them, and if he can, I hope he thinks it’s only because of how intense this just was.

“There they are. Like honey and milk chocolate. So fucking beautiful.” Leaning his forehead against mine, I cup the side of his neck and feel the erratic pounding of his heartbeat thrumming through my hand and into my own heart.

His green eyes glow, and I can’t look away.

He traps me every time, and I’m pulled just a little more under his spell.

I just stood in the kitchen less than an hour ago and told myself I was going to try and keep myself at a distance from him, but I know no matter how hard I try, or want to try, it’s out of my control.

All of this is out of my control.

Chapter 14

The next few days go by in a blur of work, Alex, work, Alex, and so on.

He’s all I can think about when I’m not with him, and he’s all I want to focus on when we are.

I feel crazy.

Crazed.

Insane.

I feel everything tenfold with him, and I have no idea what I’m doing.

It’s Friday, so I know my weekend will be filled with him, and I need to get a freaking grip.

I’m on my lunch break, so I decide to take a walk up and down Main Street for some fresh air and to stretch my legs. That’s when an idea strikes me, and I pull out my phone.

Dialing the number I made sure to program in my contacts when I first arrived, I’m relieved when the small voice answers after a few rings.

“Hello?”

“Dottie? It’s Melanie.”

“Hi, dearie, how are you?”

“I’m good, thank you. How are you?”

“Very good. I just love the fall weather.”

“Me too.” I smile. “I was wondering if you were free on Sunday? Maybe you’d like to have that tea, pie, and gossip session you mentioned?”

“Oh my, how sweet of you,” she gushes. “Yes, I’d love to.”

“Good.” I smile. “Should I invite Ally and Ashley as well?”
