“Yes, please! I loved the Memorial Day Weekend barbeque we went to a couple years ago. They know how to throw a party.”

“The Taylor’s have a claim on both weekends. The summer begins, and ends, with their parties.”

“And maybe you can flirt a little more with Ty,” Ash says, smiling cheekily.

“Nope,” I tell her, taking a long sip of my drink.

“I never fell for the Taylor men charm,” Mel says, downing the rest of her cocktail.

“That’s because you have a sexy alternative,” I tell her. Alex is a walking wet dream for any girl, and I’m not going to even try denying that I wasn’t swooning the first time I met him. He’s the manager and bartender at The Rusty Anchor and used that to flirt with every woman in sight before Mel caught his eye. Then he was as much a goner as Jake and Ryan were with Ally and Ashley.

“True.” She smirks.

“Alright, I’m starving. Let’s start getting ready, because I’m going to need some food ASAP.”

“Same,” Ally agrees, standing.

Heading inside, we take over her room, trying on different outfits we all brought with us until we find ones we agree on. And then just like old times, we collectively do our hair and makeup.

We all look hot, I have to admit. Ally’s long blonde hair is curled in loose waves down her back, and she’s wearing a short baby blue sundress that matches her eyes. Ashley’s left her brown hair wild and curly, her makeup light, and is wearing a white tank top and black maxi skirt that has a slit going up to her knee. Mel went with a red sundress that makes her skin look extra golden, and she’s left her long dark hair straight, almost reaching her butt now.

And me? I went with a yellow cotton sundress that shows off my legs nicely, white espadrille wedges, and I’ve curled my honey blonde hair so it falls down to the middle of my back.

Applying another layer of mascara, I smile at myself in the mirror. “Who’s ready for some fun?” I ask, turning to the three of them.

“Me!” they exclaim together, and we all head out, piling into Jake’s truck.

“Thanks for taking us, Thor,” I say, patting his shoulder from the back seat. When Ally first described Jake to us, she said he looked like a hot Thor-like, Viking mountain man, all wrapped up into one. And when we all met him and saw for ourselves, it became a running nickname.

“No problem, Ellie. Anything to keep you girls out of trouble.”

“Sorry, you’re just our ride.” I smile at him in the rearview mirror. “We can’t make any promises once we’re inside.”

“I know,” he sighs, rubbing his jaw. Huh, that move must run in the family.

“Come on, mountain man,” Ally coos, rubbing his arm. “We’ll be good.”

“I doubt that, darlin’, but you have fun, okay?”

“Always.” She smiles, leaning up to kiss his cheek as he drives.

Arriving at the bar, we walk through the doors, and I feel like I’m a part of Pine Cove royalty or something. Ally, Ash, and Mel swoop in with an air of confidence and ownership while I trail behind them, looking around at the men and women who all look our way.

We take over the table in the far-right corner, joining Courtney and Dara who are already waiting for us with drinks in front of them. Dara works at The Blueberry Café with Ally and Courtney, and she’s grown close to everyone over the years, so I’m hoping to get to know her now, too. Our friend group folded Courtney into our pack, and they’ve done the same with Dara. I just haven’t been here, so I have some catching up to do.

“Mel, get us some free drinks,” Ash tells her, blowing her an air kiss.

“I’m not carrying over four drinks alone.”

“I’ll come with you,” I offer, and we walk up to the bar, her fiancé coming over to us straight away.

“Hey, gorgeous,” he says to Mel, smiling wide, his green eyes sparkling. Damn, he’s good looking.

“Hey, Fonz.” She bites her lip and his eyes go dark.

Beckoning her with a crooked finger, they lean across the bar to kiss each other with a passion that borders on inappropriate for being in public. But whatever. If I had a sexy man, I’d claim him any chance I got.

“Hi, Alex,” I say, interrupting them.
