I rejoin the girls, and they all have expectant looks on their faces.

“What?”

“What do you mean, what?” Courtney says. “What’s with you and Ty?”

“Nothing. He wanted five minutes of my time, and I gave him ten.”

“Interesting,” Ashley says.

“Not really.” I shrug.

“No, it is,” Ally adds.

“Dr. Taylor told me last year that he and Pam had an intervention dinner with Tyler about settling down. They think it’s time since Jake and Ryan have.”

“Isn’t he only 30 like us?”

“31. But still, they want their boys with good women. They’re ready for grandchildren.”

“Grandchildren? Are you trying to tell us something, Ally-cat?” I ask, attempting to change the subject.

“What?” she sputters. “Oh my god, no. I’m not pregnant.”

“Okay, you don’t have to sound so offended.”

“I’m not, it’s just that I’m not ready yet. I want to enjoy a couple more years with my man. Just the two of us.”

“Understandable. Just know that if, or when, the time comes, I’m going to be a kickass aunt.”

“We all are,” Ash says, smiling. “We’ll have to teach each other’s kids how to do the fun things in life we’re not allowed to teach them ourselves. Like how to sneak out without making a sound, drinking games–”

“Ashley, I think I speak for all of us when I say you aren’t allowed to be alone with our kids when they’re teenagers,” Courtney says, laughing.

“They’re going toloveAuntie Ashley,” she tells us haughtily, sipping her wine.

Laughing, the subject of my love life is thankfully put on the back burner.

I’ve missed them so much.

I should have made an effort to visit more often instead of trying to make new friends to fill my time. No one will ever beat these girls.

When Ally’s show ends, we all promise to meet up for a girl’s night at The Rusty Anchor tomorrow. I’m way too exhausted to go tonight.

“Come over tomorrow afternoon so we can hang out and get ready together,” Ally tells me as she leaves with Jake – his arm around her waist possessively, looking at her with pure hunger. God, those two are pure relationship goals.

“Okay.” Waving goodbye, I walk down the block to my car, and by the time I get back to my room, I’m ready to pass out.

It’s been a long 24 hours.

Chapter 3

Hanging out with Ally, Ashley, and Melanie at Ally and Jake’s house all afternoon has my stomach and cheeks hurting from laughing so much.

After getting the obligatory ‘what happened with you and Kyle, tell us everything’ phase out of the way that we didn’t fully get into last night, we’ve been hanging out on the dock to get some tanning in while sipping on delicious mojitos.

I haven’t been able to enjoy the summer with how much I was working, but now I’m free to soak up the rest of it before fall sets in next month.

“Oh, I almost forgot! Ellie, you have to come to the Taylor family barbeque on Sunday now that you’re here!” Ally exclaims.
