“I promise I’ll be good,” he says, but his eyes say he’ll be anything but. They pull me in, though, and I find myself speaking without thought.

“Okay.”

“Good.” He smiles, his dimples making my head spin further. “Wait.” His smile fades, and his eyes widen. “Do I smell bacon?”

“Yeah. Courtney and I just made maple bacon donuts.”

“Can I have one?” he asks, his eyes hopeful.

“I already gave you extra cupcakes,” I tell him, placing my hand on my hip, but already knowing I won’t be able to deny him.

“And they’ll be gone in an hour. Tops. I’ll need something else to tie me over until dinner.”

Laughing, I shake my head. “That’s a lot of sugar.”

“Good thing I can take the sweetness, sugar.” He smirks. I shouldn’t love him calling me that as much as I do, but it just rolls off his tongue so easily.

“Fine,” I sigh, “let me go grab you one.”

I ignore the smiling faces of Courtney and Ally when I walk into the kitchen, and place two donuts in a paper bag. “Shut up.”

“We didn’t say anything,” Ally defends.

“I know. And don’t,” I tell them, leaving before they have the opportunity to.

“Here.” I hand Tyler the bag. “I also put a blueberry with lemon glaze donut in there. We made both this morning.”

His eyes light up. “Thank you.”

“You’re my first customer, by the way,” I tell him.

“I’m honored, and I can’t wait to have it all.”

The look in his eyes tells me he’s talking about more than just my desserts, and my eyes drop to his lips, watching them turn up at the corners.

“See you tomorrow, sugar.”

I nod, and watch him leave, my eyes dropping to his firm ass in his work pants, my mouth watering.

I don’t know how long this whole ‘strictly friends’ thing will last for me.

Chapter 7

Tyler is going to be here in a half hour for our ‘non date’ and I have no idea what to wear. I don’t want to look like I think it’s a date, but I have no idea what that even looks like.

I told him we’re just friends, but I don’t have guy friends I hang out with one-on-one, so I don’t know what not trying too hard looks like.

Ugh, forget it!

Letting out a frustrated sigh, I decide to put on a white sundress that has sunflowers printed all over it, and pair it with flat sandals. Heels and wedges are date shoes.

I leave my hair down, giving it a slight wave with a curling iron, and then put on a light layer of makeup to accentuate my features without doing anything extra.

Nervously, I slide my hands down the sides of my dress, and then tug it up so I don’t have too much cleavage showing.

Why am I nervous? This is just two friends sharing a meal.

That’s it.
